It was October 10th. Rory would never forget this day. She got up that morning and rolled out of bed. She took a shower and put on a black and red plaid dress and a pair of sky high heels. Not the best choice in footwear for a walk thru day but they made the outfit so she committed to them. Rory was running a little late so she grabbed a cup of coffee from home and headed straight to work.
Katie Nichols arrived at the office 30 minutes after Rory walked in to her office and she sat down with her to go over the initial details for her wedding.
The wedding was to be held on February 11th in the Plaza Ballroom. They were expecting around 350 guests. Rory walked Katie through the event space and showed her the area where the dance floor, catering, band and other items would be placed.
"I love it. This is everything I've ever dreamed of," Katie beamed.
"It really is a special place. Do you want to start talking through linens, flowers, catering, cake flavors and all that jazz?" Rory asked?
"Oh gosh, I would love to but I think we should wait. My family and my fiance's family are very particular so I don't want to make these decisions on my own. My fiancé will be able to attend the next planning session so I would rather wait," Katie said.
"Not a problem. I can start working on the layout for the ceremony and the reception and we can start making selections when your fiancé is here next time," Rory responded.
Katie and Rory finished up the meeting and Katie thanked her profusely for the help. Rory had a really good vibe about Katie and she just knew they were going to work well together. Katie was super sweet and so kind. She hoped the success of Katie's wedding would be exactly what she needed to prove to Claudette that she was ready for a promotion.
When Rory walked back in to the office she handed off the initial paperwork for Katie's wedding and asked the receptionist, Pam, to create a folder with the paperwork. Pam made quick work of organizing the paperwork and brought it in to Rory's office.
"Hi Rory. The file is all set. Here is everything for the wedding," Pam said and set the file on the corner of Rory's desk.
"Thanks Pam. I really appreciate it," Rory said while typing up a quick recap email about the meeting to send to Claudette.
When Rory sent off the email to Claudette she looked up from her computer screen to the file on her desk. There it was, clear as day, written on the top of the file:
NICHOLS-HUNTZBERGER WEDDING
Rory felt sick.
