After a delicious supper, all the girls were full to their stomachs. Dolly attempted to talk to Annabel but she was to busy chatting with Daffy. Stupid horrible beastly Daffy, Dolly thought. Did Annabel really find that insufferable bossy girl more interesting than kind beautiful Dolly? Annabel didn't seem like the kind of person Daffy wanted as a friend but she was acting jolly nice. "Why Daffy, your family looks simply lovely!" Annabel said, pointing to a frame. Even Daffy couldn't help blushing with pride when someone praised her family. Dolly thought Daffy's parents looked awfully dull and plain and couldn't imagine why someone like Annabel would praise people so boring.
Dolly couldn't bear to watch any longer so she stormed out of the dorm. When she passed Mrs. Potts office, she heard the teacher deep in conversation with Mrs. Grayling. "Well, Daffy would not take the job seriously and might interfere if Katie was the head girl. Violet would not do very well and Faith has yet to find her voice. Edith also may get pushed around by Daffy." Mrs. Potts said. "Eva is very dominating and simply wouldn't have a good impact on the form and Dolly would use the power to her benefit." Mrs. Potts continued. Dolly gasped with embarrassment and hurried away with angry tears in her eyes. Mrs. Potts was going to regret that! When Dolly arrived back at the dormy, everyone was discussing who would be the head girl. "Well, I was in the third last year and I'm a wondrous leader so it must be me." Eva claimed. "We all know it won't be me and not Katie either because we are friends." Daffy said solemnly. Katie frowned. "Get off to bed girls." Mrs. Pott's said when she came in. Groans chorused through the room. "Come on now, hurry up." Ivy said. All the girls grudgingly followed her to bed and soon after, the lights clicked off and sleep came.
