Vihaan and Abhi were able to make the food Sahil brought to look like they made it themselves. Switching it from the cheap styrofoam take out boxes into some nice china bowls.
Their mom arrived and was very proud of them. Sharmila was very particular about food and would never allow bahar ka khaana (outside food) in her house. She asked both the boys to change. Abhi came back down stairs in a white button-down shirt tucked into black formal pants. His hair was neatly set and his clothes were crisp. While Vihaan wore his regular uniform that consists of a plain black colored t-shirt with joggers. His wavy hair looked messy even though he combed it. Vihaan went downstairs and helped his mom clean up the mess in the kitchen, while his brother was still getting ready.
The doorbell rang and their mom and dad went to greet their friends. Abhi and Vihaan also stood up to greet them. A couple in their mid 50 walked into the living room. The women that walked in had a very warm smile similar to Vihaan's mom before she became ill. Her husband was much taller than her and had thick glasses that rimmed his face and a head full of grey hair...The couple were chatting away with Sharmila and Suraj. Vihaan turned to look at his brother, but he seemed to be searching for something... More like someone. Vihaan could see the disappointment in his brother's eyes when he heard Meghana wasn't coming, but just stayed quiet.
The discussion at the dining table was pretty standard... Suraj and Raghav were having a heated discussion about which political party is better. While Sharmila and Sharmila obsessed over sarees and jewelry. Abhi was listening to the uncle's argument while Vihaan tuned in on the aunties chatting. Often the uncles would shout over each other, but all in a light hearted manner. After a bit the small group conversation died down and the topic of the kids came up.
"Sharmila why didn't you bring Meghana or Samaria? I was really hoping to meet them!" Vihaan's mom asked her friend.
"Our little doctor said she will come after her shift is over for the day." Meghana's mom replied.
"I tried calling Sam multiple times, but that girl never keeps her phone next to her." She explained.
"What does Samaira do?" Abhi asked, curious picking at the food on his plate.
"She is a lawyer!" Her dad replied proudly.
"Wow, the first lawyer in the Arora family..." Suraj said, smiling at his friend.
Arora? Vihaan got out of his seat and excused himself saying he needed to use the bathroom and headed to his room. Taking out his phone he called his lawyer James.
"Hello" He spoke in a rush.
"Hi Mr.Chauhan" James greeted from the other end.
"James... What is the name of the lawyer who is taking the case up against us?" He asked.
"Umm... Let me check...One second" Vihaan could hear James rummaging through his files till he found his.
"Rahul Thapar" He answered
Rahul Thapar? I talked to Ms.Arora... Who is she then?
"Okay. Thank you James! Sorry if I bothered you" He said cutting the call after.
Vihaan headed back downstairs, but he was confused.
Is Samaira, Ms. Arora?
Once he reached the dining room he asked Suraj. "So which law firm does Samaira work in?" trying to sound as casually as possible.
"Hughes law firm... You remember Hughes right Raghav?" He replied and then asked his friend.
Shit! Samaira is Ms.Arora... Samaira Arora! God Vihaan, why are you such an idiot!" He thought to himself as he sat back down in his chair.
"Raghav, Sharmila and I wanted to ask you something..." Suraj began, looking at his wife and then his friend.
"We want to make Meghana and Samaira our daughter in laws... Only if they are open to it though." Suraj said, hoping to get a positive response from his friends.
"We would love to if the kids are open to it!" Raghav replied overjoyed.
"We should have the kids meet and then they can decide! Meghana and Samaira would love to meet the boys." Sharmila suggested smiling.
I don't think Samaira would even mildly be happy about meeting me. I guess that is what I get for acting like an asshole without "basic manners and etiquette".
Abhi had an important office call and had to rush out leaving Vihaan all alone. Around fifteen minutes after he left Meghana arrived.
Just missed Bhai!
"Meghana, Abhi just left! What took so long?" her mom scolded as her daughter walked over to the table.
"Sorry Ma! I had an urgent case..." Meghana apologized.
"Aunty!" She screamed as soon as she saw Sharmila. She went up to her and gave her a tight hug.
"Meghana!" Sharmila screamed back in joy.
Meghana was towering over Sharmila, who was only 5 feet. Vihaan began feeling a little out of place until Meghana started talking to him. Their conversation ranged from politics and the economy to traffic and film. The duo chatted non-stop for two hours until Raghav and Sharmila decided it was time for them to go back home.
