Rebels!Rex x reader: The abandoned base

You and the ghost crew are walking around an abandoned base, trying to get supplies for the rebellion. You look over to Captain Rex and sigh. Only Kanan and Hera knows this, but you have a big crush on the Captain.

You haven't told him yet, you've been trying for the past few months that he's been with you guys but you just can't get up the courage to tell him. You, Kanan, Rex, Ezra and Zeb  are in the base while Sabine and Hera are back at the ship. You and Rex are searching the bottom level of the base, while Kanan, Ezra and Zeb are searching the top.

You can't believe that Kanan would put you and Rex together, the only reason he did was because he knows that you have a crush on him. He's been putting the two of you together on missions ever since he found out.

It pisses you off but you can't really get mad at him, you met Kanan a few weeks after his master was killed. You were an orphaned street rat, you and Kanan became fast friends and have been together ever since. He just wants you to be happy, even if it's with a clone.

"I noticed that you tend to avoid me when we're not on missions. Did I do something wrong." The comment throws you off guard, you don't know how to answer it.

"No... No of course you didn't do anything wrong." Rex looks over at you, you can see sadness in his eyes.

"Then why do you avoid me all the time, is it because I'm old." Your eyes widen when he asks you that, of course it's not because he's old. You don't care at all that he's old.

"No it's not because of that. It's just..."

"Just what?" Suddenly you both hear a noise, it sounds like someone or something is clawing at the door in front of you.

You and Rex share a look and you step forward, Rex right behind you. As soon as you open the door a human esque creature jumps out, landing on top of you and trying to bite your neck.

It takes all your strength to keep him from biting you when Rex starts shooting it, grabbing it off of you and helping you up with one hand.

"Help me shoot at it." You nod and grab your blaster, shooting at it, it runs at you but Rex pulls you behind him before it reaches you. You both start running the opposite way as you comm Kanan.

"Kanan! There's something after Rex and I, meet us back at the ghost immediately." He immediately answers your comm and you're so thankful that he's okay, you were worried that another one of those things may have gotten him.

"We're on our way y/n, what's after you." You don't have time to explain, besides you have no idea what that thing is. All you know is that the thing has fangs.

"I don't know! Just hurry!" You scream at him as the thing starts to catch up, then almost in slow motion to you trip over an old pipe and fall flat on your face, the monster lunging on top of you, stabbing it's claws into your back.

You scream in pain, hoping that Rex at least got away using you as a distraction when you see shots hit the monster just before it bites into you. Rex somehow manages to fight it off, grabbing you into his arms and running for his life.

You're going in and out of consciousness from the pain and blood loss, but you can still here Rex talking to you, begging for you not to die.

"Please, y/n. You're going to be okay, I promise. Just don't die, please. I love you." That's the last thing you hear before everything goes black.

You wake up to blinding light, blinking your eyes a few times, they're finally focusing to see Kanan right beside you. Holding your hand. You're on the ghost, in the medbay.

"You're finally awake." You wonder how long you were asleep, hoping that you didn't worry anyone

"How long was I out?"

"A few hours, we've all been worried about you, especially Rex." You wonder why Rex was especially worried when you remember the last thing you heard. Rex said he loves you.

"Can you comm Rex? I want to talk to him, please." Kanan smiles a knowing smile, he knows that something happened between you two. He comms Rex, telling him that you're awake and wanting to talk to him.

"He's on his way."

After a few minutes Rex walks into the medbay and Kanan leaves to give you both alone time and to tell the rest of the crew that you're okay.

You motion for him to sit in the chair beside your bed, he does and you both just look at eachother, not knowing how to start.

"I'm glad that you're okay." You smile at him, you're pretty sure that he doesn't know that you heard him.

"You said that you loved me." You tell Rex bluntly, and you can see the surprise look on his face. Yep, he definitely had no idea that you heard him.

"I... Yes but I know that you don't want to be with an old clone like me, so just forget it." He goes to leave, and in a moment, forgetting that you're hurt, you try to stand. You immediately feel a sharp pain in your back and your legs immediately buckle. Thankfully Rex grabs you in his arms before you can hit the floor.

"What the Kriff! Are you doing. You're injured." You wrap your hands around his neck, ignoring the throbbing pain in your back from trying to stand, and give him a soft, sweet kiss on his lips.

You feel him tense up in surprise but soon he relax's, and even starts kissing you back. You can feel his beard tickling your face as you kiss, you find that the kiss is better than you imagine. You pull away for air and Rex just stares at you.

"I love you to." You tell him and smile, he lays you back in bed. He's completely shocked that you love him.

"You really love me? But I'm old." You grab his hand.

"I don't care how old you are, I love you. I've actually loved you since you joined the rebellion, that's why I avoided you." Rex smiles at you, still not believing that you love him. He leans over and kisses your forehead.

"I love you, cyare. Get some rest so we can maybe go on a date." You nod and close your eyes, falling asleep still holding Rex's hand.
