"That's all for today. There will be a test on this chapter the next week."

All the students looked annoyed. Few howled while few made faces behind her back.

After the teacher left the class, everyone started talking and walking in the class. Just like other students, Disha also went to talk to her friends.

Disha: "Did you take the notes? I couldn't follow what she said." She pouted.

Rai: "I have them here. But I couldn't finish 3, 5, 6 and 8."

Trina: "Aye! Same here sista." She then turned to Sarmistha, who was sitting alone and reading some novel. She turned to Disha and smiled. "Disha, go and ask that stupid girl." She eyed at Sarmistha and sneered.

Disha glared at Trina. "Can you stop saying that?"

Trina rolled her eyes. Rai nudged Disha and she sighed.

Disha walked to Sarmistha, stood in front of her and called her name. Sarmistha was so engrossed in reading the novel that she couldn't hear anything. She was in her own world with the characters; sometimes being a character herself, sometimes just being a reader.

"Sarmistha!" Disha called her many times. In the end, she knocked on her desk and called her name loudly.

"Huh?" Sarmistha looked up from her book and sighed. "Oh! It's you." Sarmistha smiled brightly.

Disha: "Did you take down the notes just now?"

Sarmistha closed her book and said, "Yes."

Disha scratched her neck awkwardly.
"Can I get your notebook? I couldn't follow what she said just now."

Sarmistha immediately gave her notebook to Disha. "Here you go."

Disha looked at her gratefully. "Thank you."

"My pleasure."

Disha then looked at Sarmistha and asked, "What were you reading?"

Sarmistha laughed dryly.

"You don't want to say?" Disha blinked her eyes.

Sarmistha immediately shook her head. "No. It's not like that." She looked at Disha and said, "The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson."

Disha squinted her eyes. "Don't tell me it's another horror novel!"

Sarmistha's eyes darted all over the class.

Disha sighed. "You always read horror, mystery and sci-fi novels. What will you do if your boyfriend doesn't like it? After all, they like feminine girls."

Sarmistha thought to herself. Does it even matter? It's not like I'm into...

"Good afternoon ma'am." Everyone stood up and wished the teacher. Disha immediately ran to her seat and Sarmistha hid her novel inside her bag.

At Sarmistha's house

Sarmistha returned and immediately went to the bathroom. After 10 minutes, she came out wearing a violet top and black pants with her hair tied up in a high ponytail. She walked down the stairs to the kitchen and sat down on her usual seat.

"Maa, food!"

Mrs. Ganguly served her and then sat in front of her. "What did you study today?"

Sarmistha told her everything and then peacefully ate her food.

...

At 6PM

Sarmistha was sitting on the chair and looking through various books kept on her study table. She took notes and kept looking through them when suddenly her phone rang. She frowned, but nevertheless, received the call.

"Hello."

"Misti, by mistake I left my papers in your notebook."

"Papers?"

"Yes. For the competition."

"Oh! Let me check."

Sarmistha, also known as Misti by only a few friends and her lovely parents and brother, immediately left her work and started finding the papers.

"I found it."

"Are you free now? Then I can go and take it from your place, or you decide a spot to meet."

Sarmistha blushed and immediately said, "Let's meet at the Xerox shop."

"Okay." Disha hung up the call and quickly dressed up. She wore a purple frock, with her mid-length hair laid down. She looked pretty, energetic and youthful.

Sarmistha opened her wardrobe and searched for a suitable dress. After checking for a few minutes, she gave up. She took her phone, an envelope and left the house after informing her mother.
