A Day Of Surprises
When we walked into the house everything felt different. Even if I've only really slept in here for three days. You would never guess that a family finally broke apart in this house. It's actually pretty saddening, but I don't have time to be sad. Harry was right; I've got to work on my happiness before I worry about anybody else.
My mother wore a huge smile on her face the second she saw us. "Kamber, honey!" she exclaimed, embracing me into a tight hug. Harry was next. I was surprised he smiled and hugged back, but he did. "How are you kids?"
"We're okay," I quickly answered before Harry.
"Well that's good. Dinner's ready, come on," she said, motioning for us to follow. We walked behind her into the kitchen. I quickly found my dad, leaning against the counter with a fresh beer in his hand, glaring at me.
"Hey," I mumbled, not wanting to really speak to him.
"Good evening, sir," Harry said politely before sitting beside me at the table. My mom sat in front of me and when my dad decides he will sit down, he'll be in front of Harry.
"It smells really good in here. Let me guess, you ordered takeout?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow.
She laughed, shaking her head. "You know me so well, Kamie." And it was true. I knew her a little too well. "But yes, Chinese, too."
"Even better."
"So who's this cutie right here?" my mom asked, looking at Harry. "Is he like your boyfriend?" There was a hint of hopefulness in her voice when she asked. God knows she never liked Michael. Oh, she hated the man. He didn't stand a chance the first day he walked through the door to meet her.
Who knew she was right and that mothers really do know best?
"Do you really think he's h-"
"I am," Harry interrupted my dad. "I'm Harry, Harry Styles. I finally asked Kamber to let me meet you."
"Aw, now that's how a boyfriend is supposed to act," my mother said, as we fixed our plates. I just smiled at her wondering why he would say that. Hearing him say that surprised me and my dad. But the look on his face grew even colder as he glared at Harry.
Harry chose to ignore him. Thank goodness because I know Harry could easily put an end to the man's life if he wanted to. My dad just needs to calm his ass down and eat some Chinese food.
And hopefully choke on it...
"You're so handsome!" my mom gushed, squeezing her fork as if it was Harry's cheeks. It's kind of hard not to love those cheeks. Especially with those large dimples in them. "He's a good one, don't you think Danny?"
All of our eyes trailed over to my dad as he stood there, staring at Harry. "I liked the Michael fella better," he replied after a few seconds of giving Harry a look over.
"You don't even know Harry!" I defended, instantly becoming mad. Leave it to this man to take something so innocent and violate the hell out of it. "Besides, Michael was awful."
"Who's Michael?" Harry asked, placing a hand on my thigh and looking at me. My dad answered before I could.
"The better boyfriend."
"The ex boyfriend who deserves to burn in hell!" my mother said, scolding my idiot of a dad. "He was awful to my baby and had no manners. Moving here was a great way to get rid of him. He would get mad when Kamber tried to break up with him. He would stalk her."
"He would make sure she was not doing anything she wasn't supposed to do," my dad spoke up, still standing by the counter. I just want to take that beer bottle and bash it over his freaking head.
