eddie couldnt comprehend the fact that richie hated him.

eddie stared at the promise ring that he was given. he wondered if stan ever wore it. probably not, but honestly who knew?

eddies stomach felt sick every time he would look at the ring. he wanted to get rid of it. he wanted it out if his house.

hey, it's eddie. uh- i have something that belongs to you, and i really need it out of my house. can i meet you somewhere and give it back?

from richie
hey man, i don't really know about that. whatever it is, you can keep it. it's not that big if a deal. i don't need it back.

to eddie
you don't get it. i need it removed from my house. i cant throw it away. what if we meet at the coffee place on broadway? i'll give it to you, and i'll delete your number and we'll never talk again. are you free at eleven tomorrow?

from richie
sure eds. eleven tomorrow? i'll be there. have a good night.

eddie left the apartment, ring in hand. he was afraid to put it in his pocket. he really didn't want to get rid of it. it was all he had left of richie now. but he knew that there was nothing else he can do now.

when eddie arrived, he saw richie immediately.

he was taller. eddie didn't know how that was possible. his hair was grown out, way out. it was up in a bun, but eddie knew it had to be about shoulder length.

he had new glasses. his nails were painted blue.

he held a to-go coffee cups in either hand.

when their eyes met, richie smiled slightly. eddie looked down to avoid eye contact. he just wanted this over with.

"hi." richie said when they were close enough to each other. eddie thought he was gorgeous. he smelt like ck one and strawberry vodka. his jeans looked brand new and they matched the trench coat that he had worn that day. he was wearing the green day t-shirt thst eddie had gotten him for his eighteenth birthday. eddie didn't know if that was on purpose or if it had just been a coincidence.

"hey." to richie, eddie hadn't changed a bit. his cheeks and nose were tinged due to the cold wind, his freckles had multiplied since the last time they spoke. his hair was barely starting to wisp into curls at the nape of his neck, and knowing eddie he would be going in to get them trimmed soon.

"oh, here, i got you this. hot chocolate with heavy cream." richie stretched his arm out, waiting for eddie to take the cup.

"uh,thank you. but you didn't have to do that. i'm alright." eddie didn't want to take it. eddie didn't want to accept richie being nice to him. he didn't deserve richies kindness at this point.

"yeah well, i already bought it. it would be a waste to not take it. plus it's cold out. would be nice to have a hot drink, especially since you didn't dress very accordingly." richie was right. eddie hadn't dressed very well for the weather. he forgot his coat on the way out, and was in a long sleeved shirt and jeans.

"okay. thank you." eddie smiled as richie pointed them to a vacant table. eddie didn't particularly wish to sit and chat.

but he sat anyways.

"what did you bring me?" eddie brought his hand up to the table, the ring still clenched tightly within it, and gently set it down. the ring hit the table with a slight clink and richies eyes widened.

"where did you get that? you left it in derry."

"stan gave it to me, at the house party. he said that he'd held onto it for me, for if we ever met again."

"i cant take that back, eds. it's yours. you have it again, you have to keep it."
