"hey, i don't know if you're ignoring my calls or you're just like, busy? i don't know, we really need to talk. i went by your place and your truck is gone. obviously, you know that. i don't know, rich, just. call me back, would you?" eddie signed, and hung up the call.
maybe tenth calls a charm? maybe i should just give him some space.
eddie decided to call bev.
she was richies best friend, after all. maybe she'd know where he was.
"hey, eds! what's goin on?" bev's voice rang through the phone. eddie smiled, finally someone to talk to.
"hey, bev. um, i had a question." eddie felt the mood shift.
"oh? uh, yeah. what is it?" eddie didn't like the tone that she used. it scared him. if he didn't already think that something was wrong, he was definitely starting to think so now.
"have you seen richie? do you know where he is? he's been ignoring my calls and i'm leaving tomorrow. i just wanted to talk things through before i left."
"he told me that he went by your house to drop of your things, and that your mom told him that you were at henry's, talking over stuff. i told him that you probably just went to tell him to leave your relationship alone, but he didn't listen." eddie stopped walking, he froze.
"where is he now?" bev moved the phone from her right ear to her left, and let out a small sigh.
"he told me he was going to see stan, at the diner. look, i don't know what's going on with them, and i was going to tell you in person tonight, i just was waiting until you got home. your mom said that she'd call when you got back." eddie started walking towards the middle of town, he wanted to see for himself.
he thanked bev, and hung up the phone. he was on the verge of tears. all he could think about what how richie was ignoring him, to hang out with stan uris.
the first thing eddie saw was richies truck in the parking lot.
he saw richie leaning over to kiss stans cheek next.
eddie walked through the doors of the diner, and straight to where the two were sitting. before he got to the table, he took the promise ring that richie had bought for him off of his hand.
"here, i thought you might like this more." eddie said, slamming the ring on the table in front of stan, before turning around to walk out.
he heard richie calling his name as he walked out to the parking lot.
"eddie stop, wait." richie came running out of the diner, eddie turned to face him.
"oh! now you call me!" eddies face said it all. he was fuming. he was embarrassed. most of all he was hurt, his heart ached. but eddie refused to let this guard down.
"eds, come on wait. it's not, this isn't what it looks like. i swear it-"
"shut up richie. literally please. please shut up. i've been all over town looking for you. i went to your house, i had to call bev"
"look, i thought we were over! your mom told me about henry, we haven't been us lately." eddie felt like screaming. he wanted to yell. he wanted to punch richie tozier right in his stupid fucking face.
"but you didn't think to call and ask me, right? so i had to see you kissing stan uris because you didn't care to talk to me."
"eddie i kissed his cheek! i kiss all of my friends on the cheek." eddie almost laughed.
"really? bev is your best friend and i've never seen you kiss her in the cheek? or is it that you only kiss your friends when i'm not there?" richie rolled his eyes, some fucking nerve.
"it isn't what you think it is, eds." eddie had heard enough. he was done with this conversation, and as far as he was concerned, richie tozier no longer existed.
"i'm done, richie. you have a date to get back to."
