Ever since I was a child I wanted to go to space; to play among the stars that shimmered in the night sky like the shimmering sun reflecting on the ocean's waves in the morning. I wanted to feel weightless, free. Here on earth I had always felt shackled down by worries, doubts and gravity itself. I was bound by expectations, stereotypes and prejudice.
Often, I found myself on the roof staring at the stars longingly for something new, for freedom. Tonight, was one of those nights. It wasn't safe by any means, do not misunderstand, but it allowed me to feel safe and secure, above the thousands of lights that made up the city below. The only route of escape from the clutches of my own home, from the large empty home, that held no warmth. That was cold and lonely.
I wanted to be free.
But I was almost certain, that that dream would never become a reality while I stayed here on earth. I released a small sigh, a well-known warmth building behind my eyes. I had always been built too close by the river, crying and feeling emotion to easily for any boy my age.
Boys aren't supposed to cry.
I had been alienated from my own species. Rejected for who I was. I was alone. I was alone and I was okay with that.
Shifting my weight onto my hands and closing my eyes I enjoy the soft breeze that caresses the side of my face; brushing over my eyelids and comforting me. I was fine. Everything was fine.
Suddenly however, a high shrill voice besides me goes: "Wello!"
With a loud yelp, I jump up and twirl around in search of the voices' origin. However, when I cannot find it, I quickly begin to grow uncomfortable.
"I'm here!" the voice echoes from the left of me, making me jolt to the right. This time however, I see the owner of it and leap three steps backwards. That quickly turns out to be a bad idea, as I am still located on the roof. A long string of curses slips past my lips as I feel myself falling, but before the back of my neck hits the roof, I land on something squishy.
"Yow're wery heawy."
With a start I realize that I landed on the small creature and quickly move off it responding with a quick, "Ah! I'm so sorry!"
"It's okway!" The creature responds, looking up at me with hollow black eyes. I rub my eyes in confusion, but the next time I open them the creature is gone.
I look around in confusion.
Okay, that was weird.
