Chapter 18: The Truth

**Mirror Rose**

After hearing that another man is trying to claim me as his daughter made me rethink everything that I thought was possible. I mean, my mother did 'cheat' on my father so 'what if' my father who I spent all 18 years with isn't my biological father? Well... no matter what anyone says he will always be my father!

So currently I am sitting on my bed with my feet dangling watching as my father paces across my room as my mother who is sitting in the desk chair playing with her finger's starts talking.

"So are we just going to sit here and look at one another or is someone going to say something?" My mom looked at me with pleading eyes while my dad stopped walking and looked at me.

"Derek please sit down," her words were soft as she looked at him with guilty eyes. He ran his hands over his face and leaned against the wall closest to the bathroom.

"Okay.. It all started when I was in high school researching information, I had been working on some school project when I came across it. My curiosity got the best of me so I looked at it further, when the information came to the screen I couldn't believe what I saw. Names, Dates, Numbers; information that could start a war. I didn't know what to do with that information so I kept it to myself. A few weeks later I was approached by a man and he asked several questions about the disc; if I seen it, do I know someone who had seen it and if I was hiding something than my life would be in danger. Then one day everything just stopped, I thought that they forgot about it because I've had stopped being approached. I told my boyfriend in school about it and he pretended like he didn't care. I then left him and changed who I was. A new town, new name, a completely new person. Then it all seemed to go away, that is when I met your father. We started dating and before I knew it not even a month into the relationship I was pregnant with you. My life seemed perfect. Until that year I left, I received a letter explaining that people were watching me because I had something they wanted. The disc. More letters came in with death threats but turned it worse were pictures of you at the playground, grocery stores, just everywhere. They threatening to take you until I gave up the disc and if I didn't give it in a certain time then they would skip the kidnapping and simply finish the job. I couldn't let them do that so I tried to convince them with money which didnt work so I agreed to meet them. I made a fake replica of the disc with the wrong information. What happened at the meeting was completely unexpected, especially who was there. My high School boyfriend was the new leader to the group and the only reason he knew I had it was because of the information I told him. I gave him the disc and before he left , he turned to me and told me to tell his daughter hello and that he would see her soon. I couldn't think of what would make him think of that so I left because I was afraid. I already gave him a false disc and then he planned on coming for you. I figured if I left than he wouldn't bother you, at that time it seemed best. A few weeks again I came home to my apartment and found it ransacked, they had found and taken the disc. This is where you come in Mirror, if he thinks your his daughter than he will trust you. That gives us a lead of getting in his system and getting the disc and end this... for good."

The room was silent, a tree could fall 10,000 miles away and we would be able to hear it.

I wasn't upset about her leaving any more but her risking my life and planning all this ahead of time, using me as leverage.

'Who in their right mind does that to their own daughter? Her!

"Do you know," I paused. I ran my hands down my face, taking deep breaths calming myself. "Do you have any idea how selfish that is?" Well that didn't work. I was livid!
