Meredith was awoken by the sound of her alarm. She groggily rolled over and shut it off. When she turned back away from the altar she was met by blue eyes staring right at her. She smiled and leaned down to kiss him. "Hi baby." He cooed when their lips departed.

"Hi babe," he smiled and pulled her back into a kiss, he pulled her on top of him and held her close. He began rubbing her back only stopping to smack her bare ass. She moaned into his mouth and than pulled away. "Real mature Mark." She laughed. He let out a childish smirk.

"What, I just wanted to have a little fun." He said, shrugging his shoulders. She scoffed and got up.

"Last night wasn't enough?" Meredith asked. He shook his head.

"Not really," He said. She smiled and rolled her eyes. "Up for a quickie?" Mark asked giving Mer a sly smirk.

"No, I have things to do Mark, I have to be in work early today," She rambled. "The chief wants to talk to me, he said it was important." She shrugged.

"Ohhhh, what did you do?" Mark asked in a childish manner. She rolled her eyes and gave him a dirty look.

"I'm not you, I didn't do anything." She replied. She slipped on a pair of black Jeans skirt and a pink blouse.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Mark asked. She walked down stairs and grabbed an apple before getting in her car and waiting for Mark. When he got in the car he placed a small kiss on her cheek and placed his hand on her thigh. They arrived at the hospital in ten minuets and walked in.

"Hey Mer," Arizona said when they walked in. Meredith smiled and waved. She walked up to Arizona leaving mark alone.

"So you're walking with her but not me?" He asked. She nodded and gave him a wave without looking.

"What do you think the chief wants to talk with you about?" Arizona asked. Meredith shrugged.

"I don't really know, all he said to me was 'there are a few things I would like to discuss with you, meet me in my office tomorrow when you get in' so that's what I'm doing." Meredith replied.

"You'll be fine, I'm sure of it," Arizona reassured her. Her phone buzzed and she smiled. "I have a mom to operate on." She placed her hand on Meredith's shoulder and walked off. Meredith entered the Chief's office and sat down.

"Ahh Meredith you made it," he smiled. She nodded. "As I've told you I had somethings to discuss with you." She nodded once more and crossed her legs.

"You may have mentioned that," she smiled. He returned the smiled but his expression soon turned serious.

"As you know I've been thinking of stepping down as chief," he started. She nodded letting him know to go on. "I've finally decided to do so, I'll still be working of course, but not as your chief."

"Wow, well who are your runner ups for chief?" She asked. He smiled.

"I don't have any, I told the board when I was stepping down that I want you to me out next chief." Meredith's eyes widened.

"M-me?" She asked and pointed to herself. He nodded.

"You are the only one I trust with this job Meredith," Richard said. She sat in completed silence, unable to think clearly. "What do you say Meredith?" He asked.

"I-I'm flattered, but are you sure I'm ready for this?" she asked.

"Of course you're ready, I've watched you grow into the woman you are today, I'm proud of you and I know you'll make a wonderful chief of surgery." She had a smile plastered on her face.

"I would be honored to be your chief." She said. Richard smiled and began dialing a number.

"I'm going to let the board know, you are going to be out next Chief!" Richard said excitedly. She smiled and walked out of the room still unable to come to grasp with what just happened.

A week later.

It had been a week since Meredith agreed to be the new Chief of surgery at Seattle Grace and it was time to reveal it to the hospital.she stood on the stairs with Richard and a few of his trusted staff members. "As you know I have recently stepped down as chief of surgery, and that there is a new chief in office." Richard addressed his staff. They all began spreading light chatter to one another.

"Who is the new Chief?" Cristina Yang asked. Richard pulled Meredith up a step.

"Dr.Grey is our new Chief of Surgery," everyone in the crowd began clapping and cheering. Including Ellis who had a smile plastered on her face. "Dr.Grey." Richard said, handing the talking over to her. She began her speech of everything she had planned for the hospital as their new chief. Once she was done she stepped down the stairs and began speaking with everyone.

"I'm your boyfriend, how did you keep this from me for so long?" Mark asked as he placed a kiss on her head and pulled her into a tight hug.

"I was just as shocked when he asked as you are now." Meredith said.

"When did he ask?" Cristina and Arizona asked in unison.

"Last week, when he called me in his office." Meredith replied.

"Well congrats Chief!" Cristina said. Meredith smiled and thanked her along with everyone else who came up and congratulated her.
