Adrianna's pov
Yesterday it felt good to do sometimes nice for someone in a very long time. My days were always the same but it was small things like this that made all the difference. And the happiness you get after doing something selfless for someone else was priceless.
Today I got Jane Eyer, among others to read and pass the time, it was from my mother's collection. And she loved it, she used to say there was nothing like a classic book. It changes you. So I was going to give it a shot today, since I had nothing but time.
Walking towards my table, I sat down putting my stuff aside. Looking into the cell I saw the lights were off but I will felt his chilling eyes on me. Like the eyes of a predator watching my every move from the bushes. I sigh before grabbing my cup sipping on my coffee.
Like always seven am the lights came on and there he was looking right into my chocolate eyes. I shivered and looked anywhere but him. Hours passed by in complete silence, once his food was done he slid the plate back out and just sat there look at the four walls around him.
He had nothing else to do having exercised in the morning, I couldn't take it anymore so I got up and picked up today's newspaper and slid it towards him. He looked at the paper then at me. But said nothing.
He came and took the paper and read it for the next half an hour. Before putting it down and turning his attention towards me. "Your not like the rest" he said studying my face after his statement. Putting my book down, I look up right into his eyes "What do you mean?" .
"The other cops, you don't look down at people, and at the same time you do don't want to hurt anyone intentionally."
"And how did your come you with this observation?"
"The first day you walked into this cell , you respect everyone here, include the man who with threw the food like it's trash. But you didn't show your anger not once towards him".
He was right, from a young age I was taught but my father to give respect no matter who it was . 'You don't know what the person is going through. The problem they face, a little respect and kindness can make someone's day' he used to say.
"Your right, I loose nothing by showing respect. I only get respect in return" I say looking at my palms on my lap.
"So your religious then?" He asked
"No I wouldn't say that, but 'do good' that's something I stick too and live by. Things like this don't have a religion.''"Is that why you became a cop?" He asked.
My mind drifts to the day of Halloween when I was ten, dress in a nurses outfit. A week before that I had cut my leg and needed stitches, rushing to the hospital a nurse names Gia helped me, she was the sweetest person I had ever met. After that's day I knew I wanted to be just like her. That's also one time I realized how important kindness was, how it could change things for people. "You could say that" I says finally answering his question."That took quite a while though" he said with a small smirk.
Xavier's pov
She answered every question without any problem. She did take some time to come up with an answer but that only showed that she was thinking before speaking. A smart and level headed women indeed. "You could say that" she said looking away. That's the only question she hesitated to answer, her being a cop. Not something she wished for but got any way, I was all to familiar with this situation.
After her shift was done I just thought back to the conversation we had, observing every expression she made. She was a classy women, I couldn't find any other word to describe her. Coming from a world like mine that was every hard to find. Rare even. Everyone was selfish and would do anything to be on top, myself included. She was like a diamond in the rough.
