"No..." a she-cat whispered sadly. A gray tom rested his tail on her shoulder for comfort and mewed, "Perhaps it was his time to join us."

"Danger is approaching," a black tom mewed. "All the clans must be united to fight a great enemy. Alone they will fall."

"But is losing Brownstar necessary?" the she-cat's voice was harsh. "We could have helped him!"

The dark cat only sighed. "Some things are out of our control. We cannot always come in to help the clans. We send them signs and prophecies. But only watch. When it is truly necessary, StarClan will fight harder to save our former clanmates."

The three cats stayed silent for a moment as another cat, a fadding red she-cat, spoke. "Greetings, Nightstar, Leafnose, Grayclaw. I bring a message."

"Greetings, Redripple. What is the message you bring?" Nightstar spoke politely.

"A new cat will join ThunderClan," she replied. "His pelt is of ginger fire and his heart is wise. Training him under a good mentor will show how much he truly knows."

"We need to send a sign to ThunderClan," Leafnose mewed. "Who will do it?"

"I will," a soft voice spoke. Leafnose turned her gaze to the speaking cat, who is a light brown tabby she-cat.

"Of course Flowerfeather. You may send the sign," Grayclaw agreed. Flowerfeather nodded sadly. "I just hope that my kit will have the courage to bring the clan in this dark time."

As the StarClan cats left, a dark cat stared at the dead body of the ThunderClan leader. "I'm sorry," he whispered as he disappeared. "I didn't have that courage."
