Everly
I'm honestly dreading today. I haven't even opened my eyes yet and I'm already anticipating the anxiety that today will most likely bring me. It happens every year.
The only thing that will be making me get out of this bed is helping Avery and doing my job. It will at least keep my mind off of what today is.
I roll out of bed and the smell of breakfast surrounds me. I stop moving as I feel the familiarity of this moment hits me full force. My feet rock forward and my body feels heavy but right before I feel any part of my body hit the floor I catch myself on the end of my bed. I decide to sit down on the rug and lay my head back against the mattress.
I stare at the plain grey wall that our dresser sits against taking deep breath's repeatedly helping my body calm down. This was definitely not the morning I was expecting to have. I inhale deeply one last time before I hear the soft padding of feet walking through the door.
"Baby? What are you doing on the floor? You okay?" His deep voice gets closer as he comes around our bed. I quickly look under the bed and swipe my hand back and forth on the shaggy rug just so I don't look like I was about to have a breakdown.
"I'm fine. I think my earring fell off when I was asleep last night and I'm trying to find it." I lie horribly.
"The right or left one?" He asks.
I squish my eye brows together and look up at him. "There isn't a specific side earrings go on Co." I shake my head and act like I'm looking again.
"Well I'm willing to help you look for it if I could figure out what earring you're talking about?"
I stop looking for the pretend lost earring and look back at him. He kneels down placing one hand on my ear playing with my diamond stud.
"Well it's not your right earring must be your left one?" He moves his hand to my left side to play with the matching diamond stud earring. My head falls and I look at the rug beneath us.
" I suck at lying." I whisper defeatedly.
He cups his hand under my chin pulling it up so our eyes connect.
"Just a little bit." He smirks at me holding his pointer finger and thumb not even a hair length away from each other.
I shake my head laughing slightly. His fingers slide from my earrings around to my cheekbones down to my jaw. He gently pulls my head up to look directly at him.
"Happy Birthday baby." He sweetly says before giving me a light kiss.
"Thank you." I sigh barely giving a smile back.
His eyebrows furrow and his eyes search my face. "You're hiding again." He simply states.
My body stiffens at his accuracy and my eyes look away from his. I really don't want to tell him that I'm like this because of Kyle and my past. I hate bringing it up especially around him. I know that he doesn't judge me about it but it brings such a dark cloud over us at that moment and seeing the way he gets upset I just don't want to say anything.
"It's nothing. No big deal. Honest." I tell him as I lift myself from the floor.
He takes my hand in his for support before hoisting himself up too.
He looks down at me and I can tell he sees right through it. "I find it kind of funny that you still lie even though you know you're bad at it."
With a tight lipped smile I shake my head yes agreeing with him. His head tilts back in laughter of my no shame in it at this point attitude. I just honestly want to just forget about it at this point. Move on from it at least.
