•-•-•-•-•Arranged Marriage?!

Your POV
•-•-•-•-•"I'm what?!" I proclaim, practically seething at this sudden barrage of news.
"You have been betrothed to King Kirishima's son," my mother patiently repeats, "and you will be traveling to their kingdom with your father to get an idea of the place and people you'll be uniting with."
"I thought who I marry would be my choice!" I protest. "You even said it was!"
"I'm sorry, but it is tradition for the parents to decide who their daughters marry. We were going to let you choose, but you're nearly eighteen and you still haven't found a suitable man for you yet. So, your father and I decided to take matters into our own hands."
I inhale deeply, desperately trying to keep my temper in check as I state sternly, yet respectfully, "Alright, fine. But I will not be visiting the Kirishima Kingdom with father. I have duties here that I must attend to."
"Would you mind giving an example, darling?" mother challenges calmly.
"I need to make sure that order stays constant throughout our kingdom," I reply smoothly, "and I can't do that when I'm not here. Besides, if I'm not getting to choose who I wish to marry, then I can at least ask this of you, couldn't I?"
"Very well," she agrees after a moment of tense silence. "You may stay behind. Your father will report how things went when he returns."
Timeskip
As the next couple of weeks flew by, I couldn't get past the fact that my parents betrayed my trust like they did.
Promising someone one thing and then twisting it around and breaking it is wrong.
It fills my entire being with anger and hints of sadness every time I dwell on it, bottling all of my emotions up inside.
I suppose that's what caused me to finally explode today, only mere minutes before I began storming out of the castle with my commoner clothing on.
My mother and I fought over the whole betrothal concept, her saying that she understood why I'm upset, when really, she doesn't.
She got the right to choose who she wanted to marry, despite her own mother prompting her to follow tradition.
Sure, she's able to comprehend some of my distress on the situation, but it's blatantly clear that I don't have any wiggle room on the subject here.
The wedding is set for the end of next month, and I'll be turning eighteen the day after.
Running away wouldn't help me, either, considering every guard and civilian in the kingdom would be searching for me on the second day of my disappearance. It takes around three days to reach the outer walls of my kingdom by foot.
Believe me, I would know.
I tested that theory when I was thirteen, and the guards ended up finding and escorting me back to the palace. How I managed to dodge all authority during the span of those few days in between is beyond me, though.
