8. Dogfight

I clutched Minhyuk's arm at the sight of the menacing animal in front of us, but it didn't come alone.

Two other wolves trudged to either side of the first one. One was cream colored and the other was a dark gray. Both were as hostile as the dark brown one, which seemed to be the leader, but I didn't take the time to wonder. I was fearfully concerned for how we would be able to get out this alive.

Minhyuk leaned his head softly to the side of my face and in a whisper he said, "I need you to run back to the car and call the others. I'll keep them busy."

I didn't retaliate to his words. However, I was worried how he could keep not just one, but three of those things back without risking his own life. 

"But-"

"Trust me." His eyes pierced into mine, they were now a vibrant red. I used to fear those eyes, but now, all I saw in them was strength. He slipped the car keys into my hand. I gave a nod, and I slowly put my hand into my pocket to grab my phone.

I whipped it out as soon as I turned on my heel, breaking into a sprint. I couldn't out run them, but maybe I could loose them. I heard a snapping bark behind me and fast approaching heavy steps. I glanced behind me to see Minhyuk throwing his shoulder into the grey wolf that was storming to me. He knocked it into some dumpsters and it let out a whine. The two others began to attack, but I couldn't see as I rounded the corner of a building and they disappeared behind it.

Those wolves were blocking the short way of getting back to the car, but not the long way. My legs moved as quickly as they could up the small street. I pulled up my contact's and quickly dialed the first recent one, which had the bear emoji. I held it tightly to my ear, hoping Shownu would answer as I listened to the dial ring.

I looked behind me for a second to see if I was being followed, and immediately the cream colored wolf made the corner. It's teeth bared as it bounded straight toward me. I cursed when I saw it and tried to sprint faster, adrenaline pumping through me. 

I saw a narrow alley to my left, which was in the direction I needed to go. I pivoted on my feet and slipped just a bit, scraping my knee, but I plunged myself into the alley.

It was littered with trash and an idea came to mind. I pulled down any trash that was piled up to try and stall the wolf. I looked back again to see it having difficulty in the small alley with the additional trash in it's way.

"Hello? Who is this?" I heard a deep Korean voice say from my phone, but I recognized it.

"Shownu! It's me, Abel! A giant wolf, which I'm pretty sure is a werewolf, is trying to get me right now!" I screamed into the phone, my breath heavy as I ran and jumped through trash.

"Abel? Wait, a wolf!? Is Minhyuk with you?"

"No, he's keeping the other two wolves busy, but we need you and the others please!" I yanked a pile of trash cans down and they made a loud clattering sound as they fell, barely cancelling out the snarls and growls of effort from the wolf right now.

"Where are you?" He asked, his voice serious and worried.

"I'm not sure! He took me to this cafe he really likes, but please hurry, these things run fast as hell!"

"I know where that is. Hang in there, we're on our way. Just stay on the call so I know you're ok." He said in a calm voice. I could hear him pull away from his phone and faintly tell someone else what was happening.

I looked behind me to see the wolf had fallen behind quite a bit. It trudged it's large body through, having much difficulty trying to keep at a sprint. I felt some triumph, but it was still approaching rapidly.
