Day-2
After I regained my focus on the real world I told the full dream to Eva. The dream scared me. Not the part in which I was drowning but the part I saw fire and smoke rising from our side. I could not figure out from where did all the smoke and fire came. I did not want to fight that day.
“You were so depressed last night. So you got such a dream. That’s all. A dream cannot come true. Now go get armored up and come to the dining. I’ll be waiting for you there. Do not think about the dream. You’ll go insane.” She said and went out of the tent. I wore my armor, took my shield, cavalry sword and sea slicer and placed it into the shield and went to the dining. I did not eat much that day. The dream was so real that it was haunting me. After eating we went to the assembling point. Alomost the whole army was there. The artillery was being readied. Both I and Eva had to fight on foot because Max was injured and Bella was dead. The commanders’ talk was alone pending. We went to the centre of the field.
“Said you knew my strategy, Oliver? But you can’t save that pathetic giants of yours.” he asked sarcastically.
“How’s your thigh?” I asked back.
“Today I’ll kill you. That is a promise and I never break promises. I’ll kill you and Amelia will kill your dear friend, Eva.” Eva became angry but I stopped her and said
“I almost killed you yesterday. You remember that? I don’t like leaving jobs unfinished. Don’t worry, today I’ll finish you.” I said and walked back towards our army.
“You almost killed him yesterday?”
“Yeah, my sword was on his neck while the horns blew. But I didn’t leave him empty handed. I pierced his right thigh. So today he will not be able to fight well.” We took our positions. When I saw their army it seemed like they were using the previous strategy. They charged at us and made a shield wall in front of us. I commanded the giants to attack. Spears were thrown from behind the walls but they did not stop them. Our horsemen threw their spears on the foot soldiers. I took on William and Eva took on Amelia. The giants hit the wall. At the first hit there was a dint. The soldiers behind the wall could not resist the force of the giants. The wall moved backwards and again took formation. But the giants were faster. They hit for the second time and smashed the wall. But some surprise was waiting for them there. Archers. They were standing in position, their arrows nocked the arrows. Thank god they did not have fire arrows. The giants were fearless. They began to move forward smashing and crushing every archer in their way. The foot soldiers were also doing well. The artillery was helping them so much. I was sure we were going to win. Both William and Amelia were fighting on foot. William disarmed me and his sword came straight to my throat. I raised my shield just in time to deflect that attack. I took Sea Slicer out and started to fight. He was slower when compared to the previous day. I was cut in my stomach and elbows but I didn’t care because he had major injuries like in his sword hand and at the side of his injured thigh. The fight went on like it was never ending. Giants smashed, arrows flew, swords clashed, heads torn apart and blood spilled everywhere. It was almost three. The William shouted something. The dream came to my mind. Something was about to happen. I yelled the soldiers to gather and protect the giants. I thought they were going to use the fire arrows again. Our army was standing in a defense formation ready to face any attack.
“Fire arrows won’t work William.” I yelled at him.
“I’m not a fool like you Oliver.” He yelled back. So they were not going to use the fire arrows. I have to think. I remembered the dream. A huge ball of light raised in the sky I my dream. What was it? I thought of the next scene. There was fire everywhere. Suddenly it came to me like the pieces of the puzzle were joined. But it was too late. They were going to use the fireballs on our artillery. I ran through the army and to the artillery. I asked the soldiers to get away from it. a second after that the fireballs rose in the sky. They were burning. Our army stared with in horror but they did not know that it was going to attack them. After a few seconds, BOOM! The mechanism creaked and they were on fire. Then many fireballs flew and hit them. All the machines were on fire.
“NO!!” I yelled and ran to the front of the army. I picked up my cavalry sword and charged at their army. My army followed me with the same anger. It was like my anger was reflected in them.
“Angry? Oliver. Then come on. Come and kill me. But before that catch me if you can.” he mocked. So I ran after him. Eva also followed me. Both the armies were fighting each other. William ran through his army and went to the other side. Many soldiers tried to stop us. But I slayed them all single-handedly and my focus was on killing that stupid commander William. We crossed their army and came to open area. I searched for him. There was a small forest a small distance away. He was standing right at the edge of it.
“You’re too slow Oliver. You will never catch me.” he mocked again and ran into the woods. I tried to run after him but Eva stopped me and said
“You shouldn’t follow him into the woods Oliver. That is a dangerous place to follow someone. It may be a trick. He may lead us into a trap.”
“I don’t care, Eva even it is a trap. First he killed half of our army then today he destroyed the most powerful weapon we had. This is a great chance to kill him. Besides I can’t go back to our king and say that we lost our artillery. To compensate it I am going to present our king with his head. If you don’t want to go with me then go back and help our army.” I said. There was only anger in my voice. I could sense my own anger. Before she could protest even more I ran into the forest. Eva had no other choice but to follow me. When I came closer to the forest I found that it was an oak forest and in an oak forest it is very difficult to find the right way. But I ignored it and entered the forest. Suddenly the whole place was dim. There were oak trees all around us. Each tree was thirty meters in height and their trunks were so that it would take four or five men to hug it.
“William! Come out you coward!” I shouted.
“You come out and show yourself and we’ll leave you alive.” Eva shouted.
“Hey I’m not gonna leave him.” I whispered to her.
“Just sayin’” she whispered back.
“Are you a comman-” I started but my eyes caught some movement behind a tree.
“Hey Eva he’s back there. Behind that tree.” I showed the tree that was two trees away from us.
“You go by the left and I’ll go by the right. We’ll cover him up and- OW!” before I could finish a stone the size of a cricket ball came and hit me on my shoulders. I turned to see who threw it. But no one was there. The next stone hit Eva from the back, right at her neck. Before we could find what was happening rain of stones were thrown at us from all sides. I covered us with y shield s much as possible. Our legs were the worst victims. When the rain stopped we were standing shoulder to shoulder and breathing heavily. Then suddenly ten men came out from behind the trees. We were outnumbered not only because there were ten of them but also we were out of breath. My vision was blurry but I could see William at the back of the soldiers. The soldiers surrounded us. We were in the centre of the circle. All those soldiers were archers. They took their bows out and nocked their arrows. We were going to face a horrible death. William came into the circle. He caught my neck and raised my face and asked
“You were going to kill me, huh? Now look at you. You are in a death circle. But before that I have a gift for you.” He took the sword out and pierced my left thigh. The sword tore the armor and went straight into my thigh and came out on the other side. I screamed. The pain was enormous. My eyes became red. But even in that situation I said
“You’ll die in my hands.”
“Why are you so foolish, Oliver? You are going to die in a few minutes. Then how would you kill me?” as he asked that question he slowly twisted the sword that was in my thigh. I fell to my knees. I can’t bear that pain. Even though I was a commander on the outer side, I’m still the same little seventeen years old school boy on the inner side. Eva taught me how to fight, defend and command an army but she did not teach me how to bear pain. No one can teach that. I felt my flesh tearing apart. Finally he stopped turning. I let out a deep breath and I was still breathing heavily.
“Does it hurt, small baby? Tell me if it hurts. I’ll so more slowly.” He said and laughed. I gathered some of my energy that was left and punched him in the nose and that was the worst mistake I’ve ever down. He became even more angry and did the most horrible thing. He broke his sword, leaving the blade into my thigh and the hilt was in his hands. I couldn’t take any more pain. I fell to the ground. My vision went blurry. But I forced my body not to faint. It was like all the blood that was running through my veins was replaced by the pain coming from the thigh. I saw what was happening and heard Eva shouting
“You’ll not be spared for it, William.”
“Oh sure I will be spared. In fact I will be rewarded by my king. You don’t worry.” She gritted her teeth but she couldn’t do anything. He ordered his soldiers to kill us and went out of the circle. They all stretched their bowstrings and aimed at us. ‘This is gonna be our end.’ I thought. I’m dying without even fighting. Then something weird happened. The soldiers released their arrows. Suddenly the earth opened and we went in. It was like the scene in my dream, we were being sucked into the quicksand, had been fast forwarded and had been implemented in real life. I heard the soldiers scream. The arrows must have hit each other. We fell to the ground with a THUD! It was a painful landing for me. But I was happy that we were alive. I was exhausted. Even thinking was taking a lot of energy from me. I looked up and saw that it was a tunnel. It was similar to the one I travelled through when I came to the past.
