Rayla had been traveling through the night, all to get away from Callum. Right now, that was her number one priority. Thoughts raced through her mind as she walked. What if he moves on, or doesn't read the letter? What if he thinks I didn't think he was good enough, that I left him for no reason? She found a tree to slump up against, she needed a break from walking.
You did this for a good reason. White lies are illusions you build with your words to protect the hearts of the ones you love. Those words. Those were the words that rang throughout her mind, what did they even mean? Those words were an excuse. An excuse for her to leave without him, for her to protect him.
Wait... why was today important?... She thought for a moment of what could have been so important that it stuck out in her mind.
"Oh no. No no no no no." She remembered why today was so important. It was Callum's birthday. She had to choke back the tears welling up inside her.
How could I be so stupid to leave on his birthday?! She was doing it again. She was blaming herself for things, and being self deprecating. Why am I always so stupid?! Callum would have stopped me from being so down on myself. He always cared, maybe he was the only one. I knew that, and I left. I'm so sorry Callum.
She still had a mission though, to find Viren, to find out what happened to her parents and Runaan. She had to. It was her duty. Something she felt like she had no other choice but to do. She had to hide. Callum couldn't find her.
Rayla found a cave to hide in for the day. She knew Callum would be after her, and it hurt so much to know that she couldn't run back into his arms and cry. Cry there with him, he would hold her, and she would bury her face in his scarf while he stroked her hair. Would she ever get that again?
Rayla didn't know, and that hurt. I love you, Callum. Please wait for me.
