It was the morning of Callum's birthday, the morning after Rayla left. Callum woke up in a rather happy mood. He had a great dream, and it was his birthday. He sat up in his bed.
"Hey, Ray. I know things over the past few days haven't been the best, but I think everything's gonna be oka-" He looked at Rayla's bed. She wasn't there. "Rayla?" Callum tilted his head, sort of confused. She should have still been asleep. Callum got up and shrugged off some worried thoughts. She must have just gone on a walk, it's okay. He thought, getting dressed.
When he walked out, everyone was already awake. "Happy Birthday, Callum!" Ezran cheered, and Callum gave a small smile. "Have you seen Rayla? She wasn't in our room this morning." Callum asked, worry in his voice.
"I haven't seen her, but we can look! She probably just went on a walk." Ezran said happily, he was always so optimistic. "Yeah, probably." Callum looked at the ground, getting more and more worried every second she wasn't by his side.
He made his way down to the nexus, no Rayla. Searched the woods, no Rayla. He looked everywhere, but still no sign of Rayla anywhere. Hours had passed, everyone was starting to get worried. They begged for Callum to calm down, and enjoy his birthday. "I can't enjoy anything until I find Rayla!" Callum retorted, not meaning to be so harsh.
"Rayla? Rayla!" Callum called out. He cast magewings and took to the sky. Where are you?! He thought as he frantically searched everywhere he could from the skies. Hours had passed. He was tired, and couldn't fly for much longer.
Callum started to lose altitude. He flapped his wings harder, but they were failing him. No! No no no no! I have to keep looking! Wings, WORK!!! His efforts were useless though, he was exhausted, and couldn't fly anymore.
Callum face planted into the dirt, and his wings evaporated. He didn't even bother trying to get up. He laid there, in the dirt sobbing.
"Rayla, where are you? I..I need you.." He said weakly to himself as he sobbed. He thought of all the times they shared together, the adoraburrs, the midnight desert. Cuddling after nightmares, flying around Katolis. How could she just leave like this?! After an hour of sobbing in the dirt, Soren found him.
"There you are! You look a mess." He sounded relieved. Callum didn't even look up. He couldn't bring himself to do much else other than cry. Soren walked up to Callum and slung him over his shoulder. "Hey, it's okay."
"How can it be okay? She's gone...She's gone." Soren dragged Callum back to the nexus, and he flopped down on his bed. There was a letter. It was from her.
