Callum must've fallen asleep, because he woke up, his eyes swollen from crying so much. He rolled over, desperately hoping the events of earlier were just a sick dream... they weren't.
This hit him when he looked at Rayla's bed to find her pajamas neatly folded on her bed, and... a letter? He groaned slightly as he got up off the bed. He was very sore, flying for hours on end had taken a major toll on his body. When Callum reached her bed, feelings of anger, sadness, and overall hurt flooded through him.
He forced himself to pick up
the letter. It was a scroll, not sealed, but too formal. Callum gulped and opened the letter.
Dear Callum,
I'm sorry. I had to leave without you, to protect you.
I can't risk losing you, you mean too much.
Please understand I needed to figure this out on my own. This is my endeavor. And if I die, then at least you'll still be alive.
Please, don't wait for me.
With all my love,
-Rayla
Callum's vision blurred, and he realized he was crying. She didn't have to leave. She didn't have to do anything. She could have waited, told him this in person. They could have figured things out. How was she protecting him?! If anything he was more hurt now.
You can't die, I won't let you die. Because if you do, then what will I do? How am I supposed to understand you going on a suicide mission and not telling me?!
Callum was furious, and he needed to stop her before she...No. Rayla wouldn't die, because Callum wouldn't allow that. He needed to find her, and stop her from going through with this suicide mission.
"Ez, go back home without me. I need to find Rayla." Then Callum walked off, bag around his shoulder, her note in his hand. "I'm finding you, Rayla. Whether you like it or not, I'm finding you, and you're coming home."
