Nicole sat in her room looking through a magazine when her phone rang. She picked it up and answered, expecting it to be Waverly. It wasn't.
"How's this half of my favorite band doing?" She heard a man ask. She immediately recognized it as Devon, the agent they had for Wicked. "Hey Dev! What's up?" She asked. She looked at the clock. It wasn't even noon.
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before he spoke again. "I know you've said you wanted a break from touring to go to school, but school is out now and we kinda need you and Nate back. What do you think? You ready to go back to work?"
Nicole stayed quiet for a bit. She honestly wasn't sure. She knew this was going to happen eventually, but things were going so well here that she didn't even really wanna leave. She really didn't want to leave Waverly.
"Can I get back to you on that? I have to talk some things over with Nathan first." She heard him sigh through the phone. "Is this about that girl I saw you with during that impromptu press conference at the Alanis concert?" Nicole rolled her eyes. "Only partially. I'll let you know soon though." She told him. "Okay kid, but you got until tomorrow night to let me know. If we're gonna go, we need to start booking stops ASAP." Nicole gave him her thanks and hung up the phone. Hopefully Waverly could help her make the right decision.————————————————————————
Waverly was sitting at the kitchen table with Wynonna, drinking her tea when she heard Nicole's truck pulling into the driveway. "That's weird," she said out loud. "She normally calls first." Wynonna shrugged. "You guys practically live together Baby Girl." The older sister said. "If she's not here, you're at her house. I don't think she really needs to call first at this point." Waverly gave her a smirk. "I guess that's true." She said when the front door opened.
"Hey baby!" Waverly said, running to the front door to greet her favorite person with a kiss, one that Nicole seemed eager to return. "What are you doing here? Not that I'm not happy to see you. Or you!" She added, noticing Nathan was standing behind his sister.
Nicole ran her hand through her hair absentmindedly, a habit that the younger Earp picked up on early on as being one of her nervous tics. "Are you alright Love?" She asked, eyes filled with concern. "I'm not sure yet," Nicole replied. "Can I y'all to you for a minute? I didn't wanna do this over the phone."
Immediately Waverly's brain went to the worst. Oh my Gods, she's breaking up with me, she thought to herself. "Sure," she said taking her hand and leading her up the stairs while Nathan went into the kitchen to talk to Wynonna.
"Are you breaking up with me?" She asked when they got to her bedroom and shut the door. "God no! Why would you think that? I love you ya big dork!" Nicole said and the smaller woman felt herself relax a little. "Sorry!" Waverly squeaked. "Typically when someone says we need to talk it's followed by someone's heart being shattered, and I really don't know if I could handle that."
Nicole sat down on the corner of the bed and pulled the brunette into her lap, wrapping herself around her in a comforting hug. "I don't think I could ever break up with you Waverly Earp. I love you too much. That would probably kill me." She kissed the top of Waverly's head. "But I really do need to talk to you, and it is pretty important."
Waverly turned around and essentially straddled her girlfriend so she could look her in the face. She cupped her chin and kissed her softly. "What's up baby?" She asked, and waited patiently for Nicole to find her words. After a few long seconds, the redhead finally began to speak.
"My agent called me this morning. He wants Nathan and I to go back on tour soon. I have to give him an answer by tomorrow. I wanted to see what you thought about it." Waverly felt her face go slack, but not out of anger or anything. Just surprise. "Babe," she said, looking into those beautiful brown eyes. "It's your job. If you want to go on tour, you should. You're such a brilliant and talented musician, and so is your brother. Why is this bothering you so much?" She asked.
Truth of the matter was that she hated the idea of Nicole leaving for months at a time. She trusted her fully, so that wasn't the issue. It was more of the fact that they wouldn't have hardly any time together or even on the phone once she was out performing. But she also knew that this was what Nicole did before she came along, and she'd be damned if she would be the girl that selfishly took that away from her. Her music was important to her, and to her fans as well. She'd respect her decision, whatever that may be.
Nicole grabbed both of her hands in hers and pulled them to her mouth to kiss them. "It bothers me because I don't want to leave you. I love you so much Waverly. I can't imagine not seeing you everyday. That's just not who I am anymore. I don't feel like me when you aren't around and I certainly won't be able to put my heart and soul into new music if my heart and soul is still here in Purgatory."
Nicole sighed and rested her forehead onto her girlfriend's. Waverly understood completely. Life without Nicole would be very difficult for her as well. She was also used to seeing her everyday. Her face in the mornings on most days. The noises she made in her sleep when she was sleep talking. The noises she made in bed when they weren't sleeping. Those were to die for, and she would miss them dearly.
"That being said," Nicole continued. "Nate brought up an idea and I was wondering if you'd like to hear it?" Waverly smiled gently. "Of course Cole. What is it?" Nicole ran a hand through her hair, again. "What if you went on tour with us?"
Waverly stared at her for a moment, not really knowing what to say. She'd never left Purgatory before in her life, well aside from going to her girlfriend's house and she wasn't even sure that actually counted.
Nicole noticed the silence and immediately began to worry that she overstepped. "You don't have to if you don't want to Babe. I don't wanna ask you to do anything you wouldn't be comfortable with. I totally understand if you want to say no. I won't be upset."
Waverly sighed. It wasn't that she didn't want to go. She kind of actually did. It would be cool to see the life that her girlfriend had before her. The cameras may get on her nerves, but if that meant she could still be with Nicole, she could get past it. It was Wynonna that she was worried about.
"I'm not saying no Nicole, but I can't say yes yet either. I have to talk it over with Wynonna. She may not be happy about me being gone for so long without her there to protect me." Waverly rubbed her fingers against the temples on her head. "You know how she is." Nicole let out a small laugh. Boy did she ever. "That's fine Waves. Do you want me to talk to her?" She asked. Waverly shook her head. "You have no idea how much I would love to let you handle this one, but I think I better do it. She's not gonna punch me in in the face... Well I hope not anyways." She said with a laugh. "I'll talk to her after you guys leave." She told her, kissing her slowly. "I really do love you Nicole Haught. I hope you know that." Nicole smiled and stole another quick kiss. "I love you too, Waverly Earp. More than anything."———————————————————————
After Nicole and Nathan left, the Earp sisters were seated on the couch watching Jeopardy when Waverly decided it was time to bring it up. She still didn't know how to word it, so she just let it all fall out of her anxious mouth at once, hoping like hell that her sister wouldn't kill her... or her girlfriend.
"Nicoleaskedmetogoontourwithher." She said all in one breath. Wynonna looked at her like she was crazy or something, considering she was the one with a Twinkie hanging out of her mouth. "What?" She asked. Waverly took another deep breath and did her best to for a proper sentence. "Nicole asked me if I wanted to go on tour with her." She exhaled. Now was the time to brace for impact, so she grabbed a couch pillow and held it as a shield.
"Really?" Wynonna said, looking a little confused. "Are you going?" She asked. Waverly shrugged, her face turning a little red. She put down the pillow and adjusted herself to face her older sibling. "I'm thinking about it. I really want to, but I wanted to make sure you'd be okay with it first. I don't want to make you feel like I'm abandoning you or anything."
Wynonna sighed. She knew how much the ginger girl loved her baby sister, and she knew how much her sister loved the ginger. It was real and that is something that is damn near impossible to find. She loved Waverly too, and no way would she stand in the way of those two, even if it hurt to see her go.
"It's not abandoning me to run off with the woman you love for a few months Waves. If you want to go, you should go. I know Haught Pants will keep you safe, and that would be my only concern."
Waverly let out the breath she didn't even realize she'd been holding in. "Really? You wouldn't be upset?" She asked innocently. Wynonna shook her head. "Hell no! Maybe a little jealous, but definitely not mad. You two are great together and this way maybe you can see the side of her you haven't been able to see yet. You know? The fun one?"
The smaller brunette smacked her sister in the arm. "Nicole is quite fun already, thank you! But I would like to see her on stage more. She looks so happy up there." Wynonna smiled. "Sis, that girl is happy anytime you walk into a room. She doesn't even see anyone else. It's fucking disgusting sometimes." Waverly laughed at her sister's pettiness. "Whatever. I think it's the best thing ever. I can't even imagine being without her a day, let alone three months. It means a lot that you're taking this so well." She said, leaning in to hug her sister tight. "I wouldn't have went if you had said you wanted me to stay you know?" She admitted. Wynonna nodded her head. "And that's exactly why I said you should go." She kissed the top of her baby sister's head. "I love you kid." Waverly squeezes her even tighter. "Love you too Nonna."And then she went upstairs to update her girlfriend on the conversation she had just had. Holy shit balls, she thought to herself. I'm going to go on tour with Wicked.
