Midoriya didn't even think about the book again until almost a week later when Ashido came up to him and asked if he had seen it. He had initially said no until he remembered that he had, in fact, seen it and had it in his room. Izuku went up to grab the journal and give it to her, assuming that it was hers, but now he was curious. Of course, he would never openly admit that he had a habit of being intrusive, at least, not in the same ways some of his classmates were, but the fact that the journal had been in his posession for so long already he felt that he couldn't help but look at it. Ashido goes through everybody's business all the time, it's about time she was given a taste of her own medicine. Midoriya picked up the leather bound book and cracked it open, flipping to a random page, and reading.
Now, he wasn't exactly sure what he was expecting, probably info on Ashido's crush on Hagakure (nothing he didn't already know), but this wasn't it.
Hello again, diary, journal, whatever this is
It happened again, dad came back home for the first time in months this morning and they're already at eachother's throats. Good news to start tho, they found Bakugou, all might retired, and I've got one more tally mark to add to my "failed suicide attempts page"
Those three actually went on that rescue mission. Five I mean. Iida and Yaoyorozu went too, which kinda really surprised me, they're supposed to be the class presidents. It doesn't matter in the end, they were successful and thats that. Kiri told me all about what happened and if I'm being honest? I'm not even mad. If the others and I stopped them from going, things probably wouldn't have turned out. I'm not mad.
I'm disappointed.
Not in them, they did great and props to Midoriya for being such a quick thinker, I'm disappointed in myself. I could have gone with them, or at least stopped them. The whole situation I felt so useless. I was inside when the villains attacked, I did nothing to stop them from rescuing Bakugou and I didn't go with them, even though i probably would've just been in the way.
I heard were moving to dorms.
Midoriya just... stared... at the page, rereading and rereading it over and over, his mind reeling. He didn't dare read anything else past that blunt ending to the entry. He hadn't expected it to be THAT personal. An unhappy marriage? Suicide attempts? Plain self-deprecation? It was all things he felt bad for intruding on and not only that, it contradicted heavily to Ashido's image in Izuku's mind. She was nice, kind, sociable, and confident, nothing like the person who wrote in this book.
He'll talk to her tomorrow.
