CH 8

POV Nicole

Ughhh it's too early for me to be moving. It's 6:00am and I just woke up for school and I have to admit I am kind of nervous. It does help that I'll have Waverly for part of the day because we have the first two classes together, but not the last two. I found out that we only have four classes, but they are all an hour and a half ugh.

I get dressed and I decided to wear jeans, doc martens, a tank top with a flannel overtop and a maroon beanie. I'm trying to avoid being that new girl that all the guys are after so if this doesn't scream gay, I don't know what does.

I walk downstairs and see Waverly sitting at the kitchen table eating a bagel.

"Morning Waves."

"Good morning, are you excited for your first day?"

"Kinda, I am a little bit nervous."

"You have nothing to worry about, I'll be with you for most of the day and everyone is pretty nice."

"Yeah I know, I just can't shake the feeling."

"Well I like your outfit."

"Thanks, I like yours too. Champ is a lucky guy haha."

I see her blush a little, but I kind of can't believe I just said that out loud. It's true though Waverly is wearing furry boots, with leggings, a sweater, her hair down, and she genuinely looks really good.

We both finish up eating and start our walk to school. On the way she tells me who to look out for and just generally what to expect. She looks over my schedule and warns me of certain teachers and by that time we are at school.

She introduces me to a girl named Claudia and tells me that she's her best friend. I start talking with Claudia and we actually really hit it off and I'm not gonna lie she's kinda cute. The next thing I know I hear Waverly giggling and I turn to see her and what I assume is Champ right behind me with his head buried in her neck.

I clear my throat which seems to get their attention. Champ looks me up and down "Waverly who the hell is this?"

"Champ stopppp this is Nicole, my friend from when I was a kid that I told you about."

"Uh, who?"

"Champ I told you about her before, you don't remember?"

"Nah, but whatever. Sup I'm Champ."

Well I can already tell he's an actual shithead. I wonder what Waverly sees in him. I look to Waverly and she looks slightly disappointed that he doesn't remember.

"Yeah hey."

I start to walk with Waverly to our first class together, but Champ cut between us and puts his arm around her. I fall behind them slightly walking now with Claudia.

"You know, you'll get used to it."

I turn to Claudia, "what do you mean?"

"You know Champ being a jerk, you get used to it."

"What does she even see in him?"

"I wish I had the answer to that one. I think it's because he is the quarterback on the football team, and she is the head cheerleader so they're like filling that old cliché or something, I don't know. I've tried to talk to her about it before, but he has some type of hold over her."

"Yeah that's weird, but whatever makes her happy honestly."

"You should sit next to me in class today because I'm always third wheeling now."

"Haha I get it, sounds like a plan."

We make our way into class and I sit next to Claudia. I can feel a few people starring at me and I get a little uncomfortable. I guess Claudia sensed this because she leans over and tells me to just ignore it. I smile at her and tell her thanks and then the teacher gets up and starts taking attendance and teaching.

I basically hang out with Claudia all day because it seems like Waverly and Champ are attached at the hip. While Claudia and I are talking she brings up the girls basketball team and how there are tryouts today.

"Wait really, tryouts are today?"

"Yeah, why do you play?"

"Yeah and I wanted to try out but now that I know it's today, I don't know if I'm ready."

"No! You should totally go for it. The worst that can happen is that you don't make it and there are plenty of rec leagues around here you can join. It wouldn't be the end of the world but I'm sure you're great."

When she said that last part her eyes scanned me up and down. Is she flirting? It's probably just in my head.

"Wow, well when you put it that way, I'll just have to give it a try."
