Waverly POV

I'm sitting with Champ at the pep rally and he has his hand on my thigh and I can't help but cringe. The pep rally begins and since Champ is on the football team he has to get up and go down to the gym floor to play games with the rest of the fall sports teams. I then make my way to the lower part of the bleachers with the rest of the cheer team as we will be performing later.

Now that Champ isn't with me, I scan the bleachers for Nicole and lock eyes with her almost immediately. She looks upset and she is trying to mouth something to me, but I can't make out anything she is trying to say. She holds up her phone and points to it, but I don't have my phone on me because I have no where to put it when I'm wearing my cheer uniform.

I gesture to her that I don't have it and it looks like she becomes more upset. My attention is directed to the announcer as the football team finishes up playing a game of musical chairs against the boys' soccer team.

The announcer calls over the captains of each team to say a few words about their upcoming season. The soccer captains finish talking, and Champ is handed the microphone since he is a captain of the football team.

"Hello everyone! On behalf of the entire football team we can't wait to give you all a great season!"

I tune him out for a bit, but I quickly refocus on him as I hear him say my name.

"Before I hand the mic over to the other captains, I just have something I want to say. Waverly Earp, you've made a big mistake."

My eyes go wide.

"Everyone, I just wanted to let you know that Waverly and I are no longer dating."

I begin to get super confused and I feel a lot of eyes on me.

"Waverly has been hiding something from all of you...she likes girls."

There we a lot of gasps and even more eyes on me now as everyone was now paying attention to the situation. My breathing starts to get faster and I almost leave as the tears begin to roll down my cheeks, but I see Nicole angrily get up from the bleachers and rush Champ.

Before he can even see her coming, she punches him square in the nose. He drops the mic and grabs his face. She picks up the microphone and slowly looks around for a moment before talking as if she didn't even realize what she just did.

"Uh, hey everyone. In case you don't know me I'm Nicole Haught and who gives a shit if she likes girls, so what, there's nothing wrong with that. I like girls in case any of you didn't know or couldn't tell. We need to stop making such a big deal out of these things and just normalize liking whoever the hell you want to. So uh, yeah."

She nervously looks over at me and I can't help but smile ever so slightly at her. I didn't even realize it, but a bunch of people are clapping for what Nicole just said. She begins to walk back to her seat but is grabbed by a teacher and is escorted out of the gym to the principal's office I assume.

The pep rally is abruptly ended and word spreads fast that Nicole was suspended until next Monday for punching Champ. Apparently, she was sent home immediately.

I finish out the school day, but I can't stop thinking about how Nicole stood up for me in front of the whole school. As I walk home, I begin to wonder why Champ would break our agreement for no good reason.

I make my way into my house and immediately look for Nicole. She must be in her room because she's not in the kitchen or living room. I drop my backpack in my room and head towards hers. Her room door is open, and she is sitting looking out the window with ice on her hand. I knock lightly on the door and she gets up and walks towards me.

"Waverly, I am so so so so sorry."

"What are you sorry for, you are the one who stood up for me in front of the whole school after that asshole outed me."

"Well...if it wasn't for me none of it would've even happened."

I look at her confused, "What do you mean?"

"I mean I confronted Champ this morning about the whole thing and that's why he outed you today. I was trying to tell you, but I couldn't find you and then you didn't have your phone at the rally."

I just stood there speechless starring at her.

"Waverly, please say something. I know I'm so stupid and I let my frustration get the best of me. I'm so incredibly sor..."

In the middle of her sentence I interrupted her by pulling her into me and smashing my lips into hers. We stayed like that for what felt like forever but it was most likely mere seconds before we pulled away.

I frantically scanned her eyes and face wanting to figure out what her reaction was. Shit, did I just mess everything up.

Her shocked eyes met mine again and she breathily said, "woah."

"Nicole, I'm sorry I just got caught up in the moment and I understand if you don't feel the sa..."

Before I can finish my sentence, she grabs my face and kisses me. I can't help but smile into the kiss which makes us break away from each other. Our foreheads rest against each other's and she strokes my cheek.

I'm happier than I've ever been in this moment, but the moment ends when we are interrupted by footsteps coming up the steps.

A/N

Hey guys, I'm officially done all of my finals and I'm now on winter break. I hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy in this weird and unprecedented time! I figured since we are 14 chapters in, I'd tell you a bit about myself. I'm 19 years old from Pennsylvania, but I spend most of my time in Florida at college. I'm very into music, I play the guitar, and I just recently got into creative writing like this. Feel free to comment telling me a bit about yourselves as I'd be super interested to hear about who's reading this! Love only, G.K.
