Part 11

I stared at him, stunned. My jaw dropped as he said the word 'drugs'. I knew they existed, I'm not naive but this was the first time I met anyone who was involved in drugs, But I still had so many unanswered questions dancing around my mind.

"Zoe," Ryan said breaking me out of my thoughts "Are you okay?"

I nodded and swallowed before I spoke. "Why were they after you?"

Ryan took a deep breath before saying anything. "Well I guess I'd better explain from the beginning." 

He got up and took a few steps forward so his back was facing me. "The guy that was trying to kill us was my brother. Caleb."

I pretended to be shocked. I couldn't let him know that I already knew that because he would think I was a stalker. 

"He's two years older than me and two years ago he was my idol. I looked up to him, he was more like a fatherly figure. I wanted to be just like him, he dressed cool, had loads of girlfriends and he was the most popular guy in school. He and I were pretty close too, we didn't need anyone else, just  me and my brother."

My eyes started to water at the first part, Ryan sounded so upset and it made me wonder what had actually happened that made them hate eachother to the extent that they wanted to kill eachother. 

"One day I went up to my brother" Ryan continued "He was getting ready to go to a party and I really wanted to go so I asked him, He refused so I begged him for hours on end and eventually he agreed. I smiled with joy and ran upstairs to get changed into my coolest outfitt as quickly as I could. I saw my brother downstairs and we went to the party together. He told me he was glad that I was coming to the party but I should stay quiet and blend in. I nodded and when we arrived at the party I knew it would be easy. There was crowds of people, all older than me, dancing around."

Ryan wiped a tear away from his eye as he told the next part. "Somehow, 10 minutes into the party I lost Caleb. I went to look for him and eventually found him near the bathroom with a group of boys. I saw him hand them a packet with white powder in it and they handed Caleb money. I knew they were drugs so I went up to Caleb and asked him, straight up, what was going on. That's when Caleb told me that he was part of a drug dealing gang. My world came crashing down because My idol wasn't the person I thought he was."

I walked over to Ryan and put my arm around him, comforting him. 

"He asked me if I loved him, I nodded, He asked me if I wanted to be like him, I nodded, Even though he was a drug dealer he was still the coolest person I knew. Then he said that I was in, and now I could sell the drug and the more I sold the more money I made. I smiled, It all seemed so easy, like having a business y'know? Then Caleb introduced me to the rest of the gang and they told me that now I was in I couldn't get out, I laughed at the time but now I know they are dead serious."

I looked at him in shock for a while, His brother got him into this? The guy that was his inspiration. He looked so regretful, as if something bad had happened. 

"So what happened? do you still do it?" I asked.

"No, After I got into the gang I sold to small customers, like teenage girls and young mothers, but then I got on to dealing with the bigger guys, the ones with guns and knives. And one year ago a certain incident took place that made me want to leave forever, so I ran away, hoping to never see them again."

"What was the incident?" I asked, all to quickly.

Ryan shook his head. "I don't like to talk about it." 

I decided not to push it. "Well, Thank you for saving my life anyway."

He turned to face me and held my shoulders. "I would never let them hurt you"

My heart melted. Ryan was perfect. 

"Ryan I.." I began, But Ryan put his finger on my lips making me silent.

Ryan looked at my lips and leaned in, I done the same, I closed my eyes and just as we were about to meet my phone rang, breaking me away from the most beautiful moment of my life.

Ryan moved away quickly and I looked at my phone to see the caller I.D.

Jay.
