A couple of months passed after the girl's concert, and the three boys were falling deeper and deeper for her unconsciously, growing numb to the feeling of loneliness. But especially the spiker and setter ; they were falling the hardest, and they were showing it the most. The third one, however, simply still could not talk to the girl as the two others could. There would be small conversations, but it would always be meaningless in some way ; colourless. It simply would not be like the day they came back, it never ended up being this interesting. His mouth went dry and his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth whenever he tried pronouncing those three words to her, the saliva would stick to the back of his throat and would block all of his emotions out.But now, only her on the rooftop, doing some homework as she listened to music, he somehow had a chance. He looked at her, noticing her dark eye bags from studying relentlessly to pass her exams, pale-looking skin and bony body as if she wasn't eating enough. He carefully observed her from this heavy metallic door, exactly like he did when Atsumu confessed to her, not daring to approach her any further as if she was Medusa herself and would freeze him just by looking into his eyes. He felt his heart racing, mouth going dry and this sickening feeling in his stomach. He panted lightly, sweat rolling down his forehead. He knew there wouldn't be any other chances of this happening ; that this was his moment. There wouldn't be any of those warm April afternoons with her sitting on the rooftop doing her homework, no one in school, only him and her. He had to take his chance.
Now or never ; he told himself.
Carefully, he pushed open the door, gulping down his saliva in the way, it getting stuck in his throat. He now saw her full figure sitting down, leaning against the railing, a bag of cashews next to her. The moment until she looked up felt awfully long ; like an eternity without end. There was no turning back now, and he dearly knew it.
"'Sup y/n." The slouching boy sat down besides her, moving her headphones back so that she would be able to hear him.
"Oh, hey there, Rintarou." She softly said, taking her headphones off and stopping the music, looking at him with tired eyes,
"Studying for the end of year exams, right?" He lazily exclaimed, leaning back and tucking his hands inside his pockets.
"Yeah.. They're a pain in the ass, really. Especially with music.. it's hard to balance everything out, so I am slightly backing away from music.." She sighed, throwing her head back and looking at the sky.
"You.. are dropping music..?" Suna widened his eyes in horror, looking at her like she was a ghost, thinking that he had misheard it.
"No no, I'm not. Though, I've been thinking about it for the past month.. I just, can't feel that same joy as I used to before that concert. Maybe I let everything out back then, and now have nothing left.. I don't know, I'm scared honestly. I'm lost in my own mind. Isn't that bizarre?" She lightly chuckled, trying to lift the mood up like she always used to.
The boy immediately gripped onto her shoulders, turning her towards him. Sheer panic was written all over his face, it being pale like never.
"D-don't, please don't y/n.. It's.. everything I can really relate to with you. I don't know how, but your music reaches me.. It just does. Please, never drop it, y/n..," He proclaimed in a panicked and nervous manner, his hands starting to shake under the nervousness. He watched the girl's eyes widening at his simple words, tears building in the corners of her eyes.
"I don't have anything else in common with you. I have so much fucking trouble talking to you like the twins, man I just don't know what to do.. But your music is the only thing that somehow makes me feel more confident about talking to you." He looked down, biting on his lower lip as he squeezed her shoulders with his hands.
"I.. God you're making this all so much harder for me.. I just.. don't want to keep going? I'm tired? I can't play the way I used to, I'm useless that way.. I just want to be happy, but I just can't, Rin', I just can't feel that happiness from music. Maybe I'm losing my mind already.." She softly mutters, tears rolling down her cheeks like crystals. She looked at the pink sunset and the clouds in the distance, lightly chuckling.
"There's no point in continuing what's already dead, you know, Rin'?"
The boy just felt his heart shattering into hundreds of pieces and his chest tightening, suffocating him.
"...De..ad?"
"Hmhm, dead, Rin'. It's dead. I can't play like I used to. That passion and stand-out talent I had is dead.
It's really a chore to pick up my violin."
"You.. No.. No no no, Y|n, you.. I.." Rintaro knew he was being selfish, thinking only about himself and not her, but he simply couldn't restrain himself from thinking that way.
No sweet words would bring her back, and he understood it. He could feel his blood boiling inside his prominent veins on his arms as he clenched his fists. His jaw tensed up as he grit his teeth, and his hair fell in front of his snake-like golden-green eyes.
"Well, if you'll excuse me now.. I have to stu-"Right as she was about to stand up, she could feel herself getting pulled down by some force gripping onto her wrist. Her eyes widened slightly in surprised and she looked down behind her at the culprit.
"Don't." were the only words he said, his voice being firm and serious. His tone was different from his usual one, it was much colder. It had some sort of rage and fury behind it, as if he was clinging onto something so desperately that the frustration was building up inside of him.
