13. in memory of cedric diggory

it was the last day of school.

calum and elena were both back at the hufflepuff table in the great hall for breakfast, hoping to convince luke and alison that he was actually a good guy.

"oh no, here they come." calum whispers, watching the couple walk into the room.

"it's okay, cal." elena assures him, squeezing his hand.

"I should just go and let you do the talking. I'll see you around, yeah?" he says, standing up from his seat on the bench.

"would you quit freaking out?" elena laughs, pulling him back down by his arm. "we're hufflepuffs. that means they're very understanding and I know they'll understand you."

she turns away from calum and smile as luke and alison reach the table.

"what is he doing here?" ali asks, sitting down across from elena.

"we had a chance to talk yesterday. calum explained what happened and how he's not a death eater, and never will be."

"I don't know, I think the dark mark states otherwise." luke speaks up, grabbing a biscuit from the plate of food.

"it's not a true dark mark because I'm not officially apart of the group, but I won't ever be. I told draco I wanted out of whatever they're planning. I promise I'm not trying to hurt anyone." calum tells him, his eyes full of honesty and plea.

alison looks between her two friends, unsure if she should believe calum or not. he did in fact have a concerning past, but if elena accepted him, then she believed that she should as well. "fine, I believe you."

elena smiles and calum lets out a sigh of relief, then turns to luke. "and you?"

"we're good, mate." luke nods, holding out a hand. calum smiles and shakes it.

"thank you both so much." he says, grateful for their considerate personalities.

"yay! I'm so glad you guys are my friends," elena smiles at her fellow hufflepuffs then turns towards calum to hug his arm. "and you're my boyfriend."

"you guys made it official?" luke asks, perking his head up.

"yep. a few days ago." elena replies, resting her head on her boyfriend's shoulder.

"I'm really happy for you two." ali grins and cocks her head to the side.

"we can go on double dates now!" luke suggests, crunching down on a piece of bacon. 

"yeah, that would be super fun." calum nods. part of him felt giddy inside after thinking alison and luke would never speak to him again, and now they're making plans to hang out together. he had never felt so accepted before.

the friends begin eating their last breakfast at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardy, digging into the overflowing plates of sausage and eggs and smothering their pancakes with syrup, but are soon interrupted by headmaster albus dumbledore.

"students, if I can have your attention, I'd like to make an announcement."

the room goes silent as everyone watches dumbledore sitting in his chair, thinking about what to say.
