Chapter 2

Sakura and Chiyo were together in the sand's greenhouse. Sakura complimented as she looked around, "Who would've thought there would be so many medicinal herbs in Sunagakure?" Thinking Sakura was being sarcastic, Chiyo apologized, "Sorry, because of the nature of the land it's difficult to grow medicinal plants. Scurvy grass is particularly scarce." Sakura reassured, "No, no there's plenty here. With this, I can make at least three different antidotes!"

"As soon as Sakura finishes we move out!" Kakashi stopped Naruto, "Rein it in a bit, Naruto." He turned to Baki, "What's happening with the pursuit of the Akatsuki?" Baki answered, "Kankuro went solo and ended up like this. That's it." Kakashi sighed heavily, "So they're already long gone?" Baki awkwardly answered, "Well... yeah." Kiba commented, "Take me to where Kankuro fought. Even if only a trace of their scent remains, Akamaru can track it!" Kankuro started to slowly sit up, "No need for that. There were two of them, one has Gaara. You only need to track Gaara's scent. Even if they split up, crow cut off some of the other's hair." Kakashi commented, "Turning things to his advantage, like a true sand ninja." Kankuro started to try and get off the bed and Kiba, who was right beside him, asked, "Does that mean you're alright?" Kankuro answered, "Yeah... I'm feeling a little better." Chiyo then walked in, "Kankuro, are you sure one of them was Sasori?" Everyone looked over to them and Kankuro was a bit startled, "Grandma Chiyo and Grandpa Ebizo?!" Ebizo asked again, "Is it true, Kankuro?" Kankuro lowered his head, "Yeah... I saw his face, I'm sure that was who he is. And to top it off he confirmed it." Kakashi asked, "Sasori of the red sand? If you know more about the Akatsuki, I want you to tell me."

Sakura was pouring the antidote down Kankuro's throat, "Drink it all." Once the cup was empty, Sakura pulled away, "That should do it. All he needs now is to keep still until the numbness goes away. Lie down and take it easy." As team Kakashi was grabbing their stuff, preparing to head out, Kankuro thought back to his failure to save Gaara. "Please save my brother..." The room went silent at the request. Or was silent for a few seconds before Kiba hit Kankuro in the back of the head. Sakura scolded, "Don't hit the patient!" Ignoring her, Kiba said, "What kind of amateurs do you take us for?" Akamaru barked, agreeing. He continued, "Of course we're gonna save your brother!"

Chiyo unlocked a box with two "special" puppets inside. "Are you taking them with you?" Chiyo stopped for a moment then answered her brother, "This was meant to be. No weapon will be better against him in battle..." The room was silent for a while until Chiyo broke the silence again, "I've lived a long life..."

Team Kakashi was about to head out when a group of sand ninja led by Temari stopped them, "Wait for us! We'll be your backup and go with you!" Then Chiyo, from the roof, ordered, "Temari, you stay to aid border security!" Everyone looked up at the old woman as she continued, "I'll represent the sand myself!" Temari was gonna argue but found herself speechless when Chiyo jumped from the roof, "Don't treat me like a fossil!" She landed, causing Kiba, Naruto, and Sakura to flinch back. She looked up with a dark expression and said, "It's been awhile since I've taken care of my adorable grandchild..."

Sasori and Deidara approach one of the Akatsuki hideouts and the entrance opens at their arrival. "You're late! Make preparations immediately!" Deidara threw Gaara's body down, "The Jinchuriki was more powerful than we expected, Hm." The leader did the summoning hand signs and a giant, creepy statue rose from the ground. He then brought his right hand in front of his face in the form of a one-handed hand sign, "Assemble." Six astral projections appeared on the statue's held up left index, middle, and ring fingers and right pinky, ring, and middle fingers. Sasori and Deidara then jumped up to stand on the left thumb and right index fingers. The leader from the ground then said, "Now then, let's begin." The leader appeared on the right thumb with his hand still held up, "This is going to take three full days. Stay aware of your physical selves." The statue opened its mouth, its gag falling out. The leader turned to the one on the right pinky, "Zetsu, have your physical body stand guard outside. Use the one with the greatest range, got it?" The projection nodded, "Understood." The one on the left ring finger spoke up, "Three days? With Orochimaru gone, shouldn't we allow more time?" The leader responded, "If you think that, we'd better get started." Each member started to hold up the same hand sign and, starting from the leader, the fingernails of the statue started to glow. Rei, sei, haku, shu, kai, nan, hoku, san, gyoku. Chakra started to build up in the statue's mouth until it all released in the form of nine dragons. Every chakra dragon then attacked Gaara's body simultaneously.
