Katie's P.O.V

I plugged my guitar in and approached the mic. I looked out to my friends.
Stevie sat on the floor, in front of the couch, Eddie sat on the right of the couch, Vikki in the middle, Dylan on her left. Todd was sat up on the armrest, all of them looking at me.
Vikki was smiling, clapping quietly for me, as Stevie seemed eager to hear what I was going to play. Eddie and Dylan were pretty relaxed, but Todd seemed to be challenging me.

"What should I play?" I asked them, suddenly seeing all my school's classmates parents looking up at me, expectedly.
I licked my lips, as I forgot my words, even though they were all written down in front of me.
"Play anything you like! Your choice!" Eddie encouraged me, standing out from all the parents.
I saw Dylan sit up, looking at me, concerned.
"Play one with an epic solo, so Todd, or whatever his name is, can hear you!" Stevie came into view, the parents somewhat disappearing.
I licked my lips again and swallowed what little spit I had.

"OK..." I unintentionally whispered.
I looked down at my guitar, forgetting how to play.
I played with the E string, open fret, before I pressed to the fifth fret, playing that eight times before stopping. I sounded OK.
"I can do this..." I nodded to myself.

Suddenly, only one song came to my mind. I knew how to play it, as when I first heard it, I begged and begged Joe to teach it to me.
"OK..." I breathed, looking out at my friends. The parents were gone and my friends all sat patiently waiting.
OK...

"When there's lightning, you know it always brings me down
'Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry out for magic, I feel it dancing in the light
It was cold, I lost my hold
To the shadows of the night...

No sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a rainbow in the dark
A rainbow in the dark!"
I sung without the guitar, just so I could hear myself. As soon as I got to the next part, I started to play.

"Do your demons, do they ever let you go?
When you've tried, do they hide, deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You're just a picture, you're an image caught in time
We're a lie, you and I
We're words without a rhyme..."
I saw Stevie smiling, bobbing his head, as Vikki was nodding for me to go on.

"There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a rainbow in the dark
Just a rainbow in the dark, yeah!"
I started to smile, as I went into the solo, losing myself entirely.

"YEAH! ALRIGHT!" Eddie cheered.
"Katie! You rock!" I'm convinced Stevie will say that for all of us.

"When I see lightning, you know it always brings me down
'Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
Feel the magic, I feel it floating in the air
But it's fear, and you'll hear
It calling you beware!"
I smiled brightly.

"Look out
There's no sight of the morning coming
There's no sight of the day
You've been left on your own
Like a rainbow
Like a rainbow in the dark, yeah
You're a rainbow in the dark
Just a rainbow in the dark
No sign of the morning
You're a rainbow in the dark!"
I played it out, looking to my family.

When I finished Eddie and Dylan pulled out their lighters and held them up, lighting them up.
Vikki jumped up, cheering like crazy, Stevie joining her, jumping around.
Todd seemed impressed, nodding, before clapping.

I smiled at my friends and they all came over, climbing up on the stage.
Eddie hugged me, before I could put my guitar down.
"Amazing!" He smiled at me, holding my shoulders.
"Thanks." I smiled.
He let me go and I put my guitar down.
"Tha' wehr awesome!" Stevie grinned, coming to stand on my left.

Vikki gave me a hug, then Dylan gave me a hug.
"Stage fright?" He asked me, speaking so only I could hear him.
"I'll tell you tonight... It's almost a biggie..." I whispered back.
Dylan let me go and smiled at me.

"I have to admit... I was sceptical when I first saw you. You proved me wrong." Todd admitted, standing a little from the steps, stage right.
"Don't underestimate any of us." I warned him.
"Understood. Eddie explained about your agreement..." Todd looked at us all, as we all stood close to each other.
"We're all agreed. No objections." Dylan told him.
"OK, well... I'm fine with the equal pay, but if we use one of my songs, which I have plenty of, then I want my credit for it." Todd told us.
"Then I don't want you around." Dylan walked up to the guy.
"Dylan!" Eddie got between the two.

"I just want it to be known that I've written the songs." Todd glared at Dylan.
"OK. You write songs. These are our songs. You either sing them, or get another band!" Dylan glared at him.
Stevie, Vikki, and I stayed quiet, standing back.
"Can I talk to you?" Eddie asked Todd.
"Yeah..." Todd frowned, looking at Dylan, who was standing taller than him.

The two walked off the stage and over to the couch again.
Stevie, awkwardly, switched off the mic we were using and looked at me. He shrugged and took a seat on the drum riser, searching the pockets of his leather pants and finding a small blunt. He patted himself down, looking for a lighter, when Dylan offered him his.
They both lit up a smoke each and we stood waiting, silently.
Vikki hugged my waist, as she usually does, and stood with me.

Eddie seemed to be making a deal with Todd, but I didn't like what he wanted. We all know what Axl Rose did to Steven Adler. We don't want that...
They came back over, after a couple of minutes, and Eddie started to speak.
"He's agreed, but when it comes to his songs, his names goes down first. What do you say?" He asked us.

I grabbed Dylan's arm and nodded for Stevie to come over to us.
"If we do a ten songs record... Stevie's, some of yours, some of Eddie's..." I know it was mean, but I was standing my ground on our rules. "We're still writing a few songs."
Dylan smirked.
"So, wait..." Stevie did the Maths in his head. "Originals, I 'ave two, you goh four, sum of those we di' together, you got Eddie's shower song, wha'ev'r tha' is, Eddie 'as about four songs..." Stevie ruffled his hair up. "No room f'r more, we goh ov'r ten."
"Done deal!" Dylan smirked, turning to Todd, who shook his hand on it. "Let's get it in black and white!"
