Chapter 1

I'm alive, and living's just a beating heart
'Cause we won't admit we've taken it too far
I know it's love cause I will always be the first
To start making up excuses when it hurts

Nobody Like You by Little Mix

3rd POV

Sam is sitting in the Impala in the dark, reading a book with a flashlight. The header at the top of the page reads 'Dr. Faustus', and there's information about Crossroads Deals. Sam looks up to see Dean inside the motel room across from him. He is wearing only an undershirt. Dean grins and gives Sam a double-thumbs up, at which Sam shakes his dead, smiling fondly. Skye comes into the room wearing lingerie and Dean shuts the sheer curtains, Sam can see they are undressing each other.

Sam smiles affectionately and turns back to his book, when his phone rings. "Hello." Sam says. "Hey, Sam." Bobby says. "Hey, Bobby." Sam says. "Whatcha doing?" Bobby asks. "Oh, same old, same old." Sam sighs. "You buried in that book again?" Bobby asks as Sam grimaces. "Sam, you want to break Dean free of that demon deal, you ain't gonna find the answer in no book." Bobby says.

"Then where, Bobby?" Sam asks. "Kid, I wish I knew. So, where's your brother and Skye?" Bobby says as Sam glancing up to see Dean frolicking through the curtains. "Polling the electorate." Sam says. "What?" Bobby asks. "Never mind." Sam says. "Well, you guys better pack it up. I think I finally found something." Bobby says and hangs up.

Sam get's out of the car and goes to the motel room. He knocks on the door, opening it slowly. "Dean?" Sam asks as he enters. "Dean, you...you conscious? Bobby called, and he thinks that maybe we..." Sam trails off as he stares in horror as Skye moans and Dean's 'fuck yeah' are heard. "Oh, god." Sam says and leaves.

Skye's POV

I keep my focus outside the window as Dean drives. I can not believe Sam walked in on me and Dean fucking. "Let me see your knife." Sam says. "What for?" Dean asks. "So, I can gouge my eyes out." Sam says. "It was a beautiful, natural act, Sam." Dean says, and I blush. "It's parts of you both I never wanted to see." Sam says as Dean laughs and slaps Sam on the thigh. "Hey, I appreciate you giving us a little quality time." Dean says.

"Yeah, no problem." Sam says quietly. "Really? Well, I got to say, I was expecting a weary sigh or an eye roll, something." I giggle. "No, not at all. You two deserve to spend time together." He says. "Well, I am in violent agreement with you there." Dean chuckles as I sigh and look down. "What's Bobby got?" I ask Sam.

"Not much. A crop failure and a cicada swarm outside of Lincoln, Nebraska. Ahh, could be demonic omens." Sam says. "Or could just be a bad crop and a bug problem." Dean says. "Yeah, but it's our only lead." I say. "Any freaky deaths?" Dean asks. "Nothing Bobby could find...not yet, anyway." Sam shrugs.

"It's weird, man. I mean, the night the devil's gate opened, all these weirdo storm clouds were sighted over how many cities?" Dean asks. "Seventeen." I say. "Seventeen. You'd think it would be Apocalypse now, but it's been five days and bubkis." Dean says. "What are the demons waiting for?" I ask. "Beats me." Sam says. "It's driving me crazy. I tell you, if it's gonna be war, I wish it would just start already." Dean says.

"I don't know, man. Be careful what you wish for." Sam sighs.

~NEXT DAY~

We pull up outside a farmhouse and hear cicada. "Hear those cicadas?" I ask. "That can't be a good sign." Dean says. "No. No, it can't." Sam says as we get out. Bobby walks over. "So, we're eating cheeseburgers for breakfast, are we?" Bobby asks. "Well, I sold my soul. Got a year to live. I ain't sweating the cholesterol." Dean says. I sigh. Does he always have to say shit like that?

"So, Bobby, what do you think? We got a biblical plague here or what?" Sam asks. "Well, let's find out. Looks like the swarm's ground zero." Bobby says as Dean pounds on the farmhouse door. "Candygram!" Dean yells but there is no answer just cicadas chirping. Dean picks the lock and opens the door. I groan and cover my nose. "That's awful." I say.

"That so can't be a good sign." Dean says as he enters first, me behind him with a gun drawn. We creep through the house, stopping in the second room where we can hear what sounds like panicked screams. "You hear that?" I ask. Dean and Sam kick open the door and the sounds are coming from a television. A family of three are sitting on the couch, they look like they've been for several days.

"Oh, my god." I say as Bobby enters through the other side of the room and also recoils in horror. "Bobby, what the hell happened here?" Sam asks. "I don't know." He says. "Check for sulfur." Dean says. "Yeah." Bobby says as we start investigating the room. I hear a noise out front and I whistle quietly, then signal the others that I am going to check it out. Bobby, Dean, and Sam circle around the other direction as I exit cautiously, gun drawn, looking around. I come around the house when I am knocked to the ground by a man with a shotgun. A woman comes up behind him.

"Isaac? Tamara?" Bobby asks as he comes up from the other side. "Bobby. What the hell are you doing here?" Tamara asks. "I could ask the same." He says. "Heya, Bobby." Isaac says. I raise my arm pitifully from the ground and wave for attention. "Hello. Bleeding here." I groan. Dean comes over to me.

~ISAAC AND TAMARA'S PLACE~

"Jenny! That is a beautiful name. That's my sister's name, actually." Dean says, and I roll my eyes. "Honey? Where's the Palo Santo? Isaac asks. "Well, where'd you leave it?" Tamara asks. "I don't know, dear. That's why I'm asking." He says.

"Palo Santo?" I ask. "It's holy wood, from Peru. It's toxic to demons like holy water. Keeps the bastards nailed down while you're exorcising them." Tamara says as she digs in a bag and pulls out a large, pointed stake. She hands it to Isaac with an affectionate smile. "Thank you, dear." He says. "You'd lose your head if it wasn't for me." She says. "So, how long you two been married?" I smile. "Eight years this past June." Tamara says.

"The family that slays together." Isaac says. "Right. I'm with you there. So, how'd you get started?" I ask. But there is just awkward silence. Maybe I shouldn't have asked. "I, uh, you know...I'm sorry. It's not...that's none of my business." I say. "No, no. It's...it's all right." She says. "Well, Jenny, if you look as pretty as you sound, I'd love to have an...appletini." Dean says on the phone as he walks over, and I giggle at the face he makes. "Yeah. Call you." He says and hangs up. He kisses my head. "That was the coroner's tech." He says. "And?" I ask.

"Get this...that whole family, cause of death? Dehydration and starvation. There's no signs of restraint, no violence, no struggle. They just sat down and never got up." Dean says. "But there was a fully stocked kitchen just yards away." Bobby says. "Right. What is this, a demon attack?" Sam asks. "If it is, it's not like anything I ever saw, and I've seen plenty." Bobby says.

"Well, what now? What should we do?" I ask. "Uh, we're not gonna do anything." Isaac says. "What do you mean?" Sam asks. "You guys seem nice enough, but, this ain't Scooby Doo, and we don't play well with others." He says. "Well, I think we'd cover a lot more ground if we all worked together." Sam says.

"No offense, but we're not teaming with the damn fools who let the Devil's Gate get opened in the first place." He says. "No offense?" Dean asks. "Isaac. Like you've never made a mistake." Tamara says. "Oh yeah, yeah. Locked my keys in the car, turned my laundry pink. Never brought on the end of the world, though." He says.

"All right. That's enough." Dean chuckles. "Guys, thisisn't helping. Dean..." "Look, there are couple hundred more demonsout there now. We don't know where they are, when they'll strike. There ain'tenough hunters in the world to handle something like this. You brought war downon us...on all of us." Isaac cuts me off and Tamara pulls Isaac away."Okay. That's quiet enough testosterone for now." She says as her andIsaac leave the room.
