Chapter 8

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence causes silence
Who are we mistaken?

Dean's POV

"I don't understand, Dean. Why not?" Sam says angrily. "Because I said so." I say. "We got the Colt now!" He yells. "Sam." I say warningly. "We can summon the crossroads demon." Sam says. "We're not summoning anything." I say. "Pull the gun on her, and force her to let you out of the deal!" Sam yells. "We don't even know if that'll work!" I yell.

"Well then, we'll just shoot her! If she dies, then the deal goes away." Skye says. "We don't know if that'll work either, Skye! All you two are pitching me right now is a bunch of ifs and maybes and that's not good enough, because if we screw we this deal, you die!" I yell looking at Skye through the rearview. "And if we don't screw with it, you die!" She yells. "Skye, enough! I am not going to have this conversation. "Why, because you said so?" Sam asks. "YES, BECAUSE I SAID SO!" I raise my voice louder. "Well you're not Dad!" Sam yells and everything goes silent. "No, but I am the oldest. And I'm doing what's best. And you both are going to let this go, you two understand me?" I ask fiercely.

I can feel both Sam and Skye's angry looks at me. I look over at Sam and he turns away and looks out the window. I look at the rearview mirror and see Skye is now looking out her window with a few tears streaming down her face. Fuck. I sigh and look back at the road. "Tell me about the psychotic killer. C'mon, guys, tell me about the killer." I say calmly. "Psychotic killer...rips victims apart with brute-like ferocity." Skye says as her voice cracks. "Okay, any mention of his razor sharp teeth or his four-inch claws? Animal eyes?" I ask. "Ni. But the lunar cycle's right. Look, if it is a werewolf we don't have long, moon's full this Friday and that's the last time it changes for a month." Skye says. "Two days, no sweat." I say.

~HOSPITAL~

I hold a fake badge with my photo. As me, Sam, and Skye close our badges and return them to our suit pockets. Kyle lies in a hospital bed with bandages and scrapes. "I'm Detective Plant, this is Detective Page, we're with the County Sheriff's Department." I say. "Yeah, uh, I've been expecting you." He says. "You have?" I ask. "All morning. You are the sketch artists, right?" He asks. "Absolutely." Skye says. "Yeah." Sam says quietly.

"Yeah. That is exactly who my partners are. The things they can do with a pen..." Skye laughs. Me and Sam glare at her. "But listen before we get started on that, I wanted to ask you, uh, how'd you get away?" I ask. "I...I have no idea. I was hiding, and he found me. He was coming right for me and then he just stopped. Staring at me with this blank look. And after that he just took off running." He says. "Kay. Um, I'm going to need as much physical detail as you can remember." I sigh and both me and Sam pull out a small notebook and pen from our pockets and start sketching. "Uh yeah, he's about six feet tall." Kyle says. "Six feet." I repeat. "Dark hair." Kyle continues and I peek over at Sam's sketch.

"Uhm, what, what about his eyes, what color eyes did he have?" Skye asks. "Maybe...blue?" He sasy. "Blue?" Sam asks. "Did they seem.." I clear my throat. "Uh, animal-ish?" I ask. "Excuse me?" He asks. "What about his teeth? You notice anything...strange about 'em?" Sam asks. "No, they were just teeth." Kyle shakes his head.

"Teeth, okay." I say. "How about his fingernails." Skye asks. "Okay look he...he's just a...a normal guy, with normal eyes a...and teeth and fingernails!" He yells. "Look sir, it's okay if.." Kyle cuts off Sam. "No. No. Those were my brothers. This guy, he...he killed my brothers. How would you feel?" He asks. "Can't imagine anything worse." Sam says and I glance at him and Skye. "I know this isn't easy but if you could remember any more details." I say. "Th...there was one more thing he had a...a tattoo on his arm of a cartoon character. Ummm...it's uh, it's the guy who's chasing the roadrunner." He says.

"Wile E. Coyote!" I sat. "Yeah, that's it." He says. "Kyle?" The doctor asks as he comes in. "Dr. Garrison." He says. "How you holding up?" He asks. "Okay, considering." Kyle says. You're Kyle's Doctor?" Skye asks. "Yes?" He asks and I hold up my badge. "Can I ask you a few questions?" I ask.

"Sure." He nods and we leave the room, leaving Sam and Skye with Kyle.

~FEW MINUTES LATER~

"Boy, this is a piece of, uh, art. Really." I laugh as Sam snatches back the notebook from me. "Yeah, like you did any better. So, what did the Doc have to say about Kyle's brother's?" Sam asks. "Not much, they were D.O.A at the scene. He did give me the lowdown on the coroner's report." I say. "Lemme guess, their hearts were missing." Skye says. "Nope." I sigh.

"But chunks of their kidneys, lungs and intestines." I say. "That's just gross." Skye gags. "Yeah, also definitely not werewolf behavior." I say. "So, what? Demon? Attacker could've been possessed." Sam says. "Why would a Demon stop halfway through an attack?" I ask. "I think, that, uh...Could've...Yeah, I got nothing." Sam sighs. "Me neither." Skye says.

~LATER~

We approach the nurses' station as three Sheriff's deputies exit a patient's room. We hastily alter our course and focus on a set of flowers on the counter. I look at the corner of my eye and see them pass by. I tap on Skye and Sam's shoulders and we continue down to the corridor to the room where the deputies had excited. "Please, please." I hear from the room. "Shh. Hey, we need to observe you while the drugs still might be in your system." The Doctor says.

"I have to go. I have things to do, arrangements I need to make!" The woman pleads. "It can wait. Now you need to rest. Stay. I'll be back in a few minutes." He says and I see the Doctor walk towards us. "Detectives." He sighs. "Dr. Garrison." Skye says. "What the hell is going on here? My whole town is going insane." He says. "We'll let you know as soon as we do." Sam says and he leaves as we move into the room. "Miss Watson? Hi. We just need to ask you a few questions." I say and show her our badges.

"Do we have to go over this again? Now?" She asks. "We'll try to be brief. Miss Watson, can you tell us how you got away?" Skye asks and she nods. "I didn't eat as much as Ken did, so I wasn't as out of it. And, when the old woman was...carving up Ken, I shoved her, and she fell. Cracked her head on the stove. She's dead, right? I...I killed her?" She asks. "Do you have any idea why she'd do this to you?" I ask. "No! One minute she was a sweet old lady and the next she was, like, a monster." She says. "Can you remember anything else?" Skye asks. "Um, yeah. Did you find a little girl there, by any chance?" She sniffs.

"A...little girl? At the house?" Sam asks. "I thought I saw her outside the window. She, she just disappeared. Just vanished, into thin air." She says causing Skye, me and Sam to look at each other. "It m-must've been the drugs." She sighs. "This disappearing girl...what, what'd what did she look like?" I ask. "Does it matter?" She asks. "Yes. Every detail." Skye says. "She had this dark, dark hair and really pale skin. She was around eight. She was a beautiful child. It was...odd to see her in the middle of something so horrible." She says.
