Chapter 38

Wrap me in a bolt of lightning
Send me on my way still smiling
Maybe that's the way I should go
Straight into the mouth of the unknown
I left the spare key on the table
Never really thought I'd be able
To say that I'll visit on the weekend
I lost my whole life and a dear friend
I've said it so many times
I would change my ways no never mind
God knows I tried!

DEAN'S POV

I am running through some trees and coming up by a fence, where I see Ruby and she shoves me into the fence, holding me. "I'd like my knife back, please. Or your neck snaps like a chicken bone." She snarls.

"He doesn't have it. Take it easy." I hear Sam say. Oh, thank god. I feel her let go of me and I turn around and see that Sam has ruby's knife pressed against her throat. "How the hell did you get out?" I ask.

"What you don't know about me could fill a book." She says and I cringe. "Shit." I say. "What?" She asks as I look away. God the real her looks god awful. "Nothing. I just...I couldn't see you before, but you're one ugly bitch." I say. "Sam, give me the knife before you hurt yourself." She says.

"You'll get it when this is over." Sam says. "It's already over. I gave you a way to save Dean, you shot me down. Now it's too late. He's dead. And I'm not gonna let you die too." She says. "Try and stop us, and I'll kill you. Bitch." Sam growls.

"Hit me with your best shot, baby." She says. "Guys! Hey. Have your little catfight later." I say as I look behind me and see two guys, probably a father and son, standing outside on their porch looking at us. I look to the next house and see a man with a briefcase is standing, also staring at us. Fuck.

"So much for the element of surprise." I say. "Go. Go. Run. Run!" Sam says. And we open the gate and run towards Lilith's house. On our way we see a lot more people running after us. Holy fucking hell all of them are fucking demons.

Sam reaches the house first and starts picking the lock on the door as we come up behind him. "What the hell is taking Bobby and Skye?" I ask. "I'm trying!" Sam yells. One of the demons reaches the lawn and the sprinklers turns on and she begins to flail, screaming, as the water burns her. Good job Bobby and Skye. I smirk. Another demon is caught in the water and he screams and flails as well.

Sam finally gets the door opened and we go inside. I shut the door and turn around to see Sam and Ruby looking at a dead body. "You think Lilith knows we're here?" I ask. "Probably." Ruby says as we look around a bit and then walk into the living room. Sam goes in first, holding the knife out as if it was a gun, while Ruby and I follow behind him.

I see the father walk in and I cover his mouth, making shushing noises to make him be quiet and calm down. "We're here to help. Okay? I'm going to move my hand, and we're going to talk nice and quiet, okay?" I ask and he nods his head yes and I slowly remove my hand. "Sir, where is your daughter?" Sam asks. "It's not...it's not her anymore." He says. "Where is she?" I ask.

"Upstairs. In her bedroom." He says. "Okay, okay. Listen to me. I want you to go downstairs to the basement. Put a line of salt at the door behind you. Do you understand me?" I ask.

"Not without my wife." He whispers. "Yes, without your wife." I whisper back. "No." He whispers. I roll my eyes and punch him, knocking him out since we don't have time to argue about all of this. I pick him up and put him over my shoulder and I give Sam and Ruby a look then start walking.

I put the dad in the basement and I put a line of salt at the door and I shut it making sure the salt line doesn't break. Then I follow Sam and Ruby upstairs. We find the bedroom and quietly slip in. Sam walks slowly into the room, knife out in front of him. The bed has thin drapes around it and through them, we can see the mom and Lilith lying on the bed, Lilith asleep. "Do it!" She says quietly to Sam and he slowly raises the knife. "Do it." She whispers again as Lilith moves again. "Do it! Do it!" The mom whispers frightened.

Lilith wakes up and starts to rise on the bed, eyes hardly opened. "Hurry!" The mom whispers. Lilith screams when she opens her eyes and Sam lunges for her but I quickly grab him. She's normal. "It's not her!" I yell as the little girl is breathing fast and heavily from what was just about to happen to her. "It's not in the girl anymore." I say.

"Mommy!" She sobs. "Mommy's here. Mommy's here. It's okay." The mother says as the little girl cries.

~MINTUES LATER~

We come down the stairs and I take the mom and the daughter to the basement. "Alright, no matter what you hear. You, your husband and your daughter stay in the basement." I say as she goes through the basement door. I shut it behind her. "Well, I hate to be a told you so." Ruby says.

"Alright Ruby, where is she?" Sam asks. "I don't know." She says as we enter the living room. I hear the front door open and see Skye. "What the hell are you doing here?" I ask her. "I had to come to see you." She says. "Could she get past the sprinklers?" Sam asks. "Her pay grade, she ain't sweating the holy water." Ruby says. "Lilith got away?" Skye asks. "Ok, you win. What do I have to do?" Sam asks.

"What do you mean?" Ruby asks. "To save Dean." He says and I grab him. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" I ask. "Just shut up for second." He says and pulls away from me. "Ruby!" Sam yells. "You had your chance. You can't just flip a switch. We needed time." Ruby says.

"Well, there's got to be something. There's got to be some way, whatever it is, I'll do it." Sam says. "Stop it." I say. "Don't, Dean! I'm not going to let you go to hell, Dean!" He yells. "Yes, you are!" I yell as Sam just stares at me breathing. "I'm sorry. I mean this is all my fault, I know that. But what you're doing, it's not going to save me. It's only going to kill Skye and possibly you." I say as he looks away for a second, tears building in his eyes.

"Then, what am I supposed to do?" Sam asks. "Keep fighting. Take care of my wheels. Take care of Skye and my kid. Sam, remember what Dad taught you...okay?" I say and I turn to Skye who is silently crying. I pull her close, tearing up. My girl... "Baby promise me you will tell our son or daughter about me. Tell them daddy loves them and that I will always be thinking about them." I say and she nods as her cries are heard in the room.

I look over at the grandfather clock. "I'm sorry, Dean. I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy." Ruby says as I hear the hellhounds begun to howl. I move Skye to Sam as I look to where I hear the hellhound. "Hellhound." I say. "Where?" Skye croaks.

"There." I say as I point to the doorway. We bolt out of the room and quickly run into an office, shutting the doors behind us.
