Danis Perspective

"Jamie, thank you so much for this amazing day. It's been great." I said to Jamie when we were sitting in the car.

"No worries, everything for you Poppins" She responded. "How are you going to tell your mom? Does she know that I exist at all?"

"I don't know yet. Right now she thinks that you're just staying with me for a couple nights because you need to find a new apartment." I said. "I also have no idea how she'll respond..."

"It'll be fine. I'm sure about it." She reassured

We eventually got home when it was already dark. Some neighbours had put up some Christmas lights that illuminated the whole neighbourhood and we could see some Christmas trees in the windows.

"When are we going to get a Christmas tree?" I questioned Jamie.

"I don't mind. We can get one tomorrow if you want to." She replied. I smiled. I have always loved Christmas. We've followed the same traditions since I was a little kid and it always made me happy.

We decided to make Spaghetti Bolognese for my mother, since it was the best thing either of us could make.  In the half hour before she arrived I was getting more and more anxious. What if she doesn't accept me? What if she forces me to leave Jamie?

Jamie could tell I was worried. "Poppins, don't worry everything will be fine. Perfectly splendid." She reassured me. I smiled at the thought of Flora. Jamie gave me a quick kiss and asked me to set the table.

Suddenly the door bell rang and I quickly went to open the front door.

"Danielle!" My mom exclaimed when she saw me. "Hey mom" I said as I was being pulled into a hug. I was happy to see her but my worry was way more present than my happiness.

"And you must be Jamie, Danis friend" she shook Jamie's hand. "Yes I am. Nice to meet you Miss Clayton." Jamie answered. "The food is ready we can eat straight away if you want to."

"I'm starving" my mom stated. We all sat down an I played the food.

"Look..Mom. There's something I have to tell you." I stuttered.

„Oh no. Did something happen?" she expressed.

„Well yes I guess so. Jamie isn't just staying with me for a couple days. We live together. This is our flat. She's my girlfriend." I said and grabbed Jamie's hand.

My mom froze and I held my girlfriends hand even tighter, so tight her hand was turning white.

„So you're a couple?" she questioned. She looked confused but I nodded. Suddenly her face lit up. „That's amazing! I'm so glad you found someone new after all that drama. Are you happy?"

All my anxiety went away at once. Was she really okay with all of this?

„Yes, we are happy. Jamie means everything to me." I responded. Jamie gave me a quick smile and I squeezed her hand in response.

„I'm so glad. But Jamie." Jamie nodded "you better treat my princess right."

"Of course I will Ma'am." She assured.

"Oh call me Diane. No need to call me Ma'am."

"Alright then, Diane."

The rest of the night slipped by rapidly. We had a lot of fun, drank some wine and Jamie and my mom both love gardening so they had something to bond over.

I was still in shock most of the night. I had always thought my mother was a homophobe just like most people. Maybe more people than I thought were supportive of us. The thought gave me hope.

Jamie drove my mom to her motel because she had to leave early again the next morning because she was going to see my brother. When Jamie returned I had cleaned up the whole kitchen so that we didn't have to worry about anything else that night.

"I told you she would accept us" Jamie said when she arrived "she even offered that we could spend Christmas with her."

She dropped on on the couch next to me.

"I'm glad she's okay with it . And yeah we could spend Christmas with her if you want to. I have no problem with it." I answered .

I found myself looking into her eyes and getting lost in the beauty of them. I slowly leaned towards her and attached my lips to hers. I could feel her hands on my back and eventually she pushed me back so that I was laying on my back, but Jamie continued kissing me.

„Let's take this to the bedroom." she whispered.

She didn't have to ask me twice.
