Oh, no. Not Josh. Anyone but Josh! Maybe I'm overreacting. Right? It could be possible that there are multiple Joshs in our school. Right? Oh well. There's nothing I can do and at least "the girls" weren't there.
I ran up to my room as soon as I got home last night so that nobody in my family would ask me questions. I told Hannah the whole thing. She said to me with her friendly incouraging words, "Trust me Cassie, if you think this is bad, it's gonna get worse." It didn't make me feel much better, but coming from Hannah it did. I should've just faced my family last night instead of running and locking myself away in my chamber of Cassie, because they had a ton of questions about the party in the morning. Mainly my Mom.
"So, how was the party? I would've asked last night, but you said you weren't feeling well. Are you feeling better?" Mom rambled. "I'm feeling a little better." I said pouring my grape juice. "Yep, but how was the party?" She was a little too excited. "I uhhh, ooh look I better not miss the bus!" I pointed out as I grabbed my backpack. "Okay, we'll talk later. Love you!" Mom called out. I turned my head just to glance at her.It made me feel kind of bad, but I didn't wanna look like the T-rex on the bus again.
I walked onto the bus and less people looked at me. Most of the kids were looking down at their phones. I walked back to Mary-Lynn's spot since she always lets me sit with her and I have no where else to sit. This time instead of saying "Ooh Cassie! Sit here!" she was turned toward the window with her smart phone punching away at buttons. "Mary-Lynn. How was the party? I went home sick, sorry." She didn't respond, so I poked her back. Mary-Lynn turned around with a disgusted look. "Seat taken!" She rolled her eyes at me and turned away again. What in the? What happened to the Mary-Lynn who was always bothering me and yapping all over my ear? Even though I hate that Mary-Lynn, I kind of missed it at the moment. I walked all the way to the back of the bus to find a seat, but everyone was akward. The only seat I could manage was with a glue eating first grader. I didn't even know first graders could ride this bus. This must've been his transfer bus. I wish I had a transfer bus. One that I could design. There would be pumpkin spice lattes and chocolate donuts. Hannah would ride with me and we could watch awesome TV shows all the way to school.
The bus doors opened and my fantasy faded away. Great. I actually made it to my locker on time today and got to class on time too! I went to sit at my back seat when Josh met my eyes. I tried to glance away, but he gave me a little wave. I motioned him away with my hand, but it wasn't working. "Class, work on your assignments for today." Ms. Olsen dragged on. Just when I was writing the answer to number 15 Josh had to slip a note onto my desk. Being me, of course I opened the note. I found your instagram... I replied back, yea, what the heck did you do that for? He scribbled down more words and this is how the conversation went. Josh: Bcuz I like you. Me: Well shut up and go away. Josh: No Me: yes. Josh: face it. I'm here now. We're even passing notes together. Me: Now you just sound like a creepy stalker. Look, I don't even like you so why don't you just- "Cassie?" Ms. Olsen interrupted. "'l'll be taking your,...love letters." she finished. I sat there humiliated while the whole class laughed. For the rest of the class my head was down until the bell rang.
Glorious lunch time. Mary-Lynn may have been disgusted with me, but maybe Sophia would be willing to fix things or at least tell me what was going on. I saw Mary-Lynn and made a little wave towards her, which followed in zero response from her. "Whatcha up to Mary-Lynn." I tried to communicate. Maybe I did want some friends. "Why are you talking to me?" she rudely replied. "Because we're friends." "Well after what you did last night, I don't think so..." I stood there while my stomach fluttered. "What? What are you talking about? Oh, is this about me never coming back with the punch? Because, I can totally explain." I relaxed a little. "Oh, we know what you did." she turned to her food.I stood there since I wasn't technically "invited" to the table. "Eww, why is she here?" Gwen sassily said as she walked over to us. Smack, Hallie whacked my lunch box out of my hands and onto the floor. I stood there in awe. "You, you man stealer!" Hallie yelled at me. "I-I-" I tried to speak. "Don't even! I don't know what you're trying to start here, but you can't just walk into a school and steal everyone away!" Why was Hallie yelling at me? Thank goodness Sophia walked in with the other girl with the dark blonde messy bun. Gosh, what was her name again? Kylee? Pretty sure it was Kylee. "Oh, hey Cassie." "What the heck? Cassie how could you?" Kylee said as she walked to the table. "Look guys, this is probably just a misunderstanding. I have no idea what you are all talking about!" I wanted to get out of this accusation. "Oh really? Explain this." Hallie shoved her phone at me. It was Josh's instagram post. It read, "Location- JH mall party. Caption- Hanging with my new girlfriend." I couldn't believe it. "No, no that's not true. I would never." My heart was racing and there was no stopping it. "The girls" pointed to the door and told me never to speak to them again. Crap.
