chapter fourteen: "i did love him"

chapter fourteen:

johnnys pov:
annie came down to see hayden and i at practice, before she went up to the gym.
hayden and i wanted to have a team bonding at her house and we could all chill in her backyard.
j: how was your project.
a: difficulty level probably a four on a ten scale.
j: your four is like my nine.
a: no, you just underestimate yourself-
then hayden came over interrupting us.
h: hey anns.
a: hi hay.
h: did you talk to her about tonight?
he says to me and annie looks curious.
j: no, not yet.
h: oh we were wondering if the team could go over your house tonight, since you're my best friend and you and johnny have gotten so close?
he says mocking kind of.
a: yeah sure, but why my house?
h: we knew if we did it at one of our houses you probably wouldn't come.
a: that's probably true.
j: we know.
i say laughing.
h: okay guys!
hayden screams.
a: jeez hayden tone it down a bit.
i start to laugh again.
h: sorry, we're having a team bonding at annie's tonight.
he says looking at her.
a: i have a pool so feel free to bring a swim suit.
i could see carson staring at her, but she wasn't paying attention.
a: i'll also invite kenzie.
annie says raising her eye brows and nudging hayden.
h: how'd you hear about that.
a: no one in particular, i just know you like her. why didn't you tell me you're both my best friends that would have been an easy in.
j: valid point.
a: thank you.
h: i'm walking away.
j: start the three miles.
hayden nods to me.
j: are you sure you don't have a problem with cars coming.
a: of course not, i haven't said anything to hayley but worse comes to worse she can stay in her room.
j: okay i'm glad because-
b: julianna grace !!
a voice shouts her name and walks down the field.
a: hey b!
she says hugging brennan donnelly.
b: how've you been.
a: i've been good, except you didn't call me back yesterday.
she says play punching him.
b: i know, i'm sorry.
he says laughing.
b: i got caught up.
a: it's all good.
annie noticed me standing there awkwardly
a: brennan this is johnny.
b: hey what's up. nice to finally meet you.
he puts his hand out for me to shake.
j: you as well.
i say shaking his hand.
b: i've seen you play soccer and you're a beast dude.
j: wow thanks man.
b: of course.
a: brennan's a huge soccer fan.
b: big is a bit of an understatement.
a: they're all coming over today, stop by and bring ry and kate if you can.
b: i'll make it happen, johnny have your highlights cued up for me.
j: will do.
b: great
he says walking away.
he's really nice.
j: i didn't know you knew him.
a: we've known each other our whole lives, we moved out here together and he's my ex boyfriend.
j: he's your ex?!
i say kind of loud.
a: yeah why?
she says concerned.
j: i didn't know you dated him!
a: yeah we dated for about a year and a half.
j: how come i never knew about that, he's in my grade news travels fast.
a: i was in ninth and you guys were in tenth, we dated all my freshman and midway through my sophomore year.
j: who dumped who?
a: he broke up with me.
j: did you love him.
a: yeah i did, i was not in love with him though, but i've moved on. i needed to focus on school anyways.
j: any other ex's i need to know about?
a: hayden.
j: you and hayden?!
a: calm down i was like thirteen.
j: so you're best friends with all your ex's.
a: there are only two, but yes. neither one of them were messy break ups, i was just simply to young for a relationship with hayden and brennan i don't know where there was a disconnect but it was okay because i needed to stay focused on school and gymnastics.
j: would you get back together with him?
a: i still have love for him because he was the first person i've ever truly connected with, and our relationship was super healthy and balanced, but no. from that relationship i learned that just because you're happy during a relationship doesn't mean you're supposed to spend forever with them.
she then looks at her watch.
a: i gotta go. i'll see you later though.
j: yeah, text me your address.
a: will do. might as well add me to the group chat at this point.
she says laughing and walking up the hill.
