Almost Reached Forever

Running hastily towards the nearest waiting shed, I was soaking wet. I never expected the rain to be pouring this hard and fast. I was oblivious about the weather. Heck, I don't even care about it. I tried to wipe myself using my blue handkerchief but it was no use. I was already drenched in water. Irritatingly, I sighed.

What a good way to end my day.

I moved the sleeves up of my black jacket slightly to see my wristwatch.

8:43 PM.

I was really occupied. I didn't even notice the time. I should be home now, eating and watching some films in my couch. Instead here I was, freezing, stranded, and pissed.

Minutes have passed yet the rain still continued to cry its heart out. I was already tired and starving. I've been waiting for any bus or jeepneys to pass by, but it seems like they've completely vanished.

Tapping my feet with arms wrapped around myself, I squinted my almond-doe eyes. I saw a figure standing near the light post on my right. My heart started beating fast and my mouth fell open. Tears immediately started forming in the corners of my eyes. The figure started walking towards where I am. I was clenching my fist, attempting to stop myself from trembling. And as the figure stopped in front of me, I froze. It's like the rain stopped pouring, the chilly wind wasn't blowing in my face anymore and everything stopped.

"S-sandy."

She smiled and suddenly wave of memories flooded me.

We met at an unexpected time and place. It was three in the morning and there I was, vomiting my guts out at the back of I-don't-know the name club, when suddenly a hand with a blue handkerchief blocked my peripheral vision. I looked at the handkerchief and slowly to the owner of the hand. Everything was dim and my head was spinning but I still saw her face. She was wearing a maroon sweater, black pants, and black glasses. Her face was void of any emotion. I looked at her with a questioning look. She gestured her still holding handkerchief hand. When she saw that I wasn't moving, she suddenly wiped my mouth with it. And that was the start of the best chapter in my life.

We started dating. Eating out. Sneaking in the night to go strolling under the moonlight. Making out. And after a few months of being like that, we became official.

February 14, 1996. Another memorable date of my life.

The first few months passed away fastly. I was in her bedroom listening to her soft strumming on the guitar when I thought of something.

"Mahal? Gusto mo ba makilala sila mama?" Her strumming halted and she looked at me nervously.

"Sigurado ka?" I nodded and said yes. I immediately set a date for a family dinner with my parents. My parents are both lawyers. They're very strict with me but I guess they'd accept Sandy because I love her.

The dinner night came. We we're dressed formally. I was wearing a beige off-shoulder dress while Sandy was wearing trousers and a black coat with white t-shirt inside. We wanted to arrive earlier than my parents so we drove off early. Upon arriving at the place, we were immediately ushered to the VIP room which I have reserved beforehand for this occasion. We sat down with the round table in front of us.

"Mahal kinakabahan talaga ako." I smiled kissed her left cheek.

"Don't worry. I'm sure they'll love you. I'm here if anything happens okay."

Truth be told I was myself nervous too. My dad would probably disown me while my mom, would shed some tears because of disappointment.

A few minutes later my parents arrived. Both of then looked formal and elegant. My father was then and there showing that he doesn't like the sight he was seeing. I greeted them and kissed their cheeks before coming back to my seat.
