Three words for you: Best day ever. I'm not even kidding.

It never really came through to me until that point that things had been slightly...weird for a few months. I couldn't exactly put my finger on why but my and Percy's relationship had been wonky. After the race though, it was like we had fully fallen back into our old dynamic. I wasn't so stressed around him and things in the world just felt right.

Onto other great news, Grover let us all know that he'd be taking a summer long break from his quest for pan. Apparently his bosses at the Council of Cloven Elders were so impressed that he had gotten out of that island alive and that he had been able to clear the way for future searchers that they gave him some extra vacation days. The only real downside was that while Grover had been away, he had seemed to get WAY more into playing his reed pipes, and if you couldn't already tell he didn't exactly improve. He did pick up on one new song though, the YMCA. I patted him on the shoulder and told him it was his best song yet. Percy looked at me like I was crazy.

Later in the day, while I was in sword practice with my Aphrodite friends Chiron pulled me aside. We went and picked up Percy from archery before Chiron spilled the beans that he had conveniently sorted things out with Meriwether Prep. The school no longer blamed the two of us for destroying their gymnasium and the police were no longer looking for us, which was a pretty big relief.

"How did you manage that?" Percy asked.

Chiron's eyes twinkled. "I merely suggested that the mortals had seen something different on that day—a furnace explosion that was not your fault."

I raised an eyebrow. "So you just told them that and they believed you?"

"I manipulated the Mist. Some day, when you're ready, I'll show you how it's done."

A thought seemed to come to Percy's mind. "You mean, we can go back to Meriwether next year?"

To be honest, I hadn't even thought about that. That would have been massively cool if Chiron had been able to figure that out. We had never stayed at one school for more than a year. The idea of being able to go back to one, of not having to be the new kids for once...

Chiron just shook his head. "Oh no, they've still expelled you both. Your headmaster Mr. Bonsai, said the two of you had—how did he put it?—un-groovy karma that disrupted the school's educational aura. But you're not in any legal trouble, which was a relief to your mother Percy. Oh, and speaking of your mother..."

He unclipped his cell phone from his quiver and placed it in Percy's hand. "It's high time you both called her."

That seemed like a fantastic plan! You know, until we dialed the number and were met with a: "Percy-Jackson-Joey-Grace-what-were-you-two-thinking-do-you-have-any-idea-how-worried-I-was-sneaking-off-to-camp-without-permission-going-on-dangerous-quests-and-scaring-me-half-to-death." But finally she paused to catch her breath. "Oh, I'm just glad you're safe!"

That's the best thing about Sally. As hard as she tries, she can never stay angry.

"I'm sorry, Mom." Percy told her.

I sighed. "Yeah, me too Sally. We won't scare you like that again."

"Don't promise me that. You know very well it will only get worse." She tried to sound casual about the whole thing but I could tell she was pretty shaken up.

I really wanted to dismiss her. To convince her that she was wrong but somewhere inside of me I knew that she was really right. Percy seemed to share my sentiment, even if like me he wouldn't say it aloud. Being a half-blood is scary, it's probably even worse being the mom of one. Always worrying. I'd be willing to bet that it also didn't help that I was thrown onto her pile.
