Year 3
September 1st – Sunday – 9:00 am
To be perfectly honest I didn't want to come back to school. I probably wouldn't have it weren't for my Mother forcing me. I hadn't seen or spoken to anyone really all summer. Not even my own mother, who spent every day locked in her room. I didn't even celebrate my 14th birthday. The world was breaking around me and I don't know what to do.
Now I stand on the platform waiting to board the Hogwarts express. My friends stand awkwardly, not knowing whether to speak to me or not. They spoke to each other, though, not often and quietly. I know they spoke of the situation. I know they went to the "common room" when it was announced on the news. The muggle news to be more exact, that's how serious the situation has become.
I could feel everyone's eyes burning into the back of my head. I won't give them the satisfaction of looking at them, I will continue to stare blankly at the train tracks. My father is out, roaming the streets, terrorising innocent people. The way some people look at me, I know they think I have information and I wish I did. I don't.
Finally, the train came whirring by. The speed of it causing my blonde hair to sway in the wind. I sat in the compartment with the outsiders, I don't think they want to leave me alone just yet. I stared down at my shoes, I am ashamed and embarrassed, I curse the name I have been given.
I would say we are halfway to the school by now, no one speaking. Sting had his nose in a book, Win was sleeping his head propped against the window. Ed was – Ed was, I'm not quite sure what he was doing. Drawing maybe? Yet Ed doesn't draw.
They changed. Not mentally maybe but physically definitely. I hadn't even looked at them when we got on the train and since I hadn't seen them over the summer, I didn't even notice. I scanned over each of them, using this new information as a form of distraction, my eyes first landing on Win, who was directly in front of me.
He looked taller, his legs were outstretched in front of him, crossing at the ankles. His shoulders have definitely broadened since the last I had seen of him, he looked older, stockier even. The fat he was carrying, now turned to a sort of muscle, visible on his arms. He wore a short sleeve shirt, the muscle on his flexed arm were standing out.
Beside him, Ed still examining his page, looked remarkably well also. Ed had definitely grown, I noticed that even before I looked at him now. He nearly caught up to Win, although not quite. His figure had slimmed down, all his baby fat seemed to have melted. He seemed to acquire a slight tan from the summer sun, which caused his dark brown hair to be covered in highlights. He didn't have broad shoulders like Win but it suited him very well.
Finally, beside her, Sting, he turned his head and gave her a small smile before going back to his big book. He had changed the least in comparison. He was always slim, the only noticeable difference being his height. He was short, but as short as he was. Compared to the boys he may look like a cat next to two dogs.
I touched my face unconsciously, wondering if maybe I had changed like they had. No, I don't think so. I would know.
Ed looked as if he were about to say something until the room got unnervingly cold. His eyes darted to and fro looking for a source. Josh tore his eyes from his book and gave a small shiver. The lights went rather dim and I gave a small gasp.
"What is going on?" I asked, my voice kind of shaky. Ed and Josh exchanged worried glances while Win unbothered by the whole thing remained asleep.
"I'll look, stay here." Ed slid open the compartment door and slipped out. Josh slowly turned his head toward me, shock spreading across his face.
"Why are you crying? It's ok Jess." I hadn't even noticed I was crying, until I touched my face which came back wet. Before I could answer, Josh moved himself closer to me and wrapped his arm comfortingly around my neck. He took a deep breath, stroking the back of my head with his hand, his forehead pressed just on top of my ear. "It's going to be ok." He whispered over and over.
A few minutes later Ed returned, his face relieved. Sting took his arm away from me and looked over to Ed, who looked at his gesture slightly confused.
"What was it?" Sting asked.
"Eh – " Ed looked at me nervously before he spoke, "Nothing, it was a malfunction that's all." I knew he was lying, Ed is a terrible liar.
"Just say it. I'm not fine china, don't be so delicate, I won't break." I snapped
"Oh, yeah, sorry." He gave an awkward cough, a habit of his when he's nervous "It was dementors."
"What?" Sting cocked an eyebrow at Ed, but I spoke before he could answer,
"Looking for my Father. Of course, I should have known."
"Harry fainted because of them, weird isn't it?" Ed attempted to change the topic of conversation and Josh went along with it.
Dementors? On a school train? Why on earth would my father be on this? It's not exactly like he has come looking for me before, why would he do it now? No, he is not on this train. That is ridiculous.
Hii,
So this will mainly be Jessica's POV, simply because this story line has more to do with her than the other characters but I will include the other characters!!!!
