Sunday - July 28th - 2:40pm

It was around midday when we decided to go to Diagon Alley. This is all we had talked about since we had gotten our letters. Of course Win knew a lot about Diagon Alley since he comes here like almost every month but the rest of us had only been here once or twice. Our parents joined us, well not my Dad. He hasn't a clue about the wizarding world and quite frankly it terrifies him, but I went with the others.

Our first stop is "Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions." We filed in, our parents talking behind us. The shop was wonderful, so many different coloured robes all of different fabric. Of course we were only getting 4 plain black ones and one winter cloak. A funny looking hat as well, that I don't think I'll show Father.

The witch of the shop told us that we must wait as two young boys were currently being fitted for their robes also. One had shiny blonde hair, a pointy nose and pale skin. While the other had shaggy brown hair, glasses and brilliant green eyes. They were talking so I presumed they were friends. We took it upon ourselves to wonder the shop.

It only took about 20 minutes for us all to be fitted and soon enough we were waltzing out with 2 bags in our hands. I felt extremely grateful and guilty at the same time. I don't have much muggle money as it is, so never mind having any wizard money. My mother died so suddenly that she never told us where she kept it, we tried Gringotts but they told us she never had a vault with them.

Winstons family offered to buy my robes and other parts of the uniform that were needed. They also agreed to buy 2 of my text books. Jessica's family offered to buy the remainder of my books and wand, while I continued to thank them until they said in the politest way possible to shut up. Which I did.

The book list was long and I don't know how I'm going to be able to carry all this with me. I peered down the list:

The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1 by Miranda Goshawk

A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot

Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling

A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch

One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore

Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander

The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble

"I say we go to the book shop next, get it over and done with." Winston stated and everyone nooded in agreement. We had a great deal of fun searching for all the different books. Turning it into a sort of hide and seek game. Winner gets the new box of lego that's been sitting unopened in the common room as no one can decide who gets it.

Win and Ed being the most competitive ran around the shop as if it were a track. I carefully looked through all the spines of the books and Jess decided to just go and ask the shop owner. Which ultimately resulted in her finding the books first.

The books were heavy and weighed me down tremendously. "Where to next then?" I asked trying not to sound weak. Jess scanned her eyes down the list, "A wand, I suppose." Ed mouth dropped open. "I've always wanted a wand."

We entered a funny looking shop named Ollivanders. An old wizard greeted us kindly and reminisced on the parent's old wands. How he can remember is beyond me but it was pretty wicked. Ollivander began with Jessica.

"Hold this, no" he repeated 4 times, each time placing a wand in her hand and then sharply taking it back. The fifth one she took felt special according to her. She looked comfortable with it. "Yes this is the one, 7" Cherry Wood, Phoenix Feather. Very good wand, yes very very good."
