chapter one-

" You're such a retard!" I yelled from across the room.

"You really think you're going to get away with this? Mum's gunna kill you. And don't even think that I'll cover for you. Remember the last time you ran off to your girlfriend's house? Mom grounded us both for three months. Troy, I swear to God, if you do this I'm goi-"

"Just shut up Nia! I'll pay you fifty bucks tomorrow morning if you keep quiet. It'll pay for that lame limelight series you wanted the other day. I thought that just last night you were complaining about allowances to mum and dad. Wouldn't you just love to be able to spend fifty dollars on just about anything you want?" he replied as if he already knew he had won me over. Dick.

My older brother, Troy, believes that he can sneak out of the house for the night to go see some kind of dork convention downtown. He can barely pass Grade 10 English, I really doubt he'll even be able to make it to the bus station. You know, sometimes I really don't understand what that moron is trying to process in his freakishly small head. I mean, come on, you have to be pretty stupid to believe you can just disappear for the night and expect a 13 year old to cover for you.

But I just had to give in. As much as I wanted to get him in trouble, I figured that I could find out some other way to torment him, and keep the books instead. I got up, off of his sofa couch, walked over to him and forcibly grabbed him by the collar of his shirt so that I was looking him straight in th eye. "Fine!" I let go making him stumble back an inch or two, "but if that money isn't in my hands by tomorrow morning, you're toast! ...and the limelight series isn't lame, it's immense and prodigious! Search it up when you get back! Now hurry up, leave already. Be back by midnight!"

Before I knew it, he was on the roof.

As kids, we used to climb on practically everything- especially Troy. He was always up and about, doing who knows what. Once my mom found him stuck in the middle of a thorn bush. He was one crazy kid. So, climbing down the maple tree at the side of the house wasn't exactly what you would call a challenge for him.

I thought I heard a little thump outside but I was too tired to possibly look out the window. In fact, I decided to wait for him in here, his room. I slowly but surely made my way back to the sofa couch, ignoring the noise I heard outside- if Troy fell, that would be his problem to deal with. I must've fallen asleep bacause the rest was all a blur.
