"Prom's just around the corner. Today's practice, so pick your partners wisely," announced Y/N's teacher, setting the tone for the upcoming event.
As the practice kicked off, Y/N found herself the center of attention, with classmates eager to team up with her for the dance. Despite the offers, she made the unconventional choice to dance solo. Amidst the flurry of activity, she couldn't help but wonder why she opted to do it alone.
Maybe, deep down, she held out hope that Sakusa would be the one to ask her.
The music in the gym drew Y/N into its rhythm. She initially felt self-conscious about dancing alone, but she quickly enjoyed the freedom it provided. Her motions arose confidence, capturing the attention of everyone around her, including the couples already twirling together.
However, despite the pace of the music and the swirl of dancers surrounding her, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong with Sakusa. She couldn't pinpoint exactly when it started, but she couldn't escape the feeling that he was beginning to distance himself from her. Was he developing feelings of hatred for her? The thought stayed in the back of her mind, casting a pall over the otherwise enjoyable activity.
The atmosphere shifted abruptly as a latecomer arrived, disturbing the flow of practice. Y/N politely declined their offer to join, preferring to continue dancing solo, savoring the sensation of independence it afforded.
As she reflected on her friendship with Sakusa, Y/N couldn't help but wonder about its origins. "How did I even become friends with Sakusa?" she asked. "Whatever. It's fine. I'll just roll with it," she said, dismissing any doubts.
Later, Yuji approached Y/N, full of eagerness. "Girl, you were the center of attention during practice. Even without a spouse, all eyes were on you! You have serious charm," they said, obviously impressed.
Y/N simply shrugged off the compliment, brushing it off with casual ease. "Oh, it's no biggie," she replied nonchalantly. "I'm used to flying solo. No siblings, but hey, I've got a cousin in the US. I can handle my own company just fine," she explained, giving a glimpse into her independent nature.
