When Saint sees me entering into the hotel's café for breakfast, he pulls out an empty seat next to him and beckons at me to join him. Madam Norma, who is with me, follows my movement towards Saint's table.
"You can join them while I have a private matter to discuss with Sofia," he halts Madam Norma from coming near while motions to the Corporate Comms' table.
"Really? I also need to talk to her about something important over breakfast," Madam Norma cocks her head.
"We're done with the Breakout and she deserves a break," he tells her off sternly. "Zaira has all the flight details with her if that's what you'd like to inquire about. You two can discuss work related affairs first thing Monday morning."
Saint's adamant reply had got Madam Norma nonplussed and hesitantly, she joins in the other table where Sarra and Ms. Zaira sit.
"So, what's it you want to talk about?" I take my seat.
"Nothing, I'm just separating you from a toxic person," he responds in an impassive manner. "Go ahead and help yourself to something."
"Oh," I mutter silently and got up towards the breakfast island as per his demand before returning to the table with a plate of croissants combo and a bowl of cereal for starters.
Saint's cheeky side finally resurfaces when he grabs one of my croissants, takes a bite and winks at me. Halfway through my meal, I cautiously glance over my shoulder to check up on the ladies but Saint reprimands me.
"They're doing fine, Sofia," he says coldly.
"I'm just worried they might talk," I reason.
"Of course they'll talk, let them be. Would it kill you for having breakfast with T-Rex?"
Saint eventually knows his moniker at the Bank.
"Madam Norma's not really on good terms with everyone at CoSec especially me. So, if you have a soft spot on me and it shows, it might affect your position at the Bank as well," I explain.
"I'm not intimidated," he brags. "I don't report to her nor does she have any influence on my boss."
"She was shaken up by your vexing over CoSec's absence at the registration the other day, she feared you might report to Dato' Bahadin later on," I explain.
"It was something to do, I missed you," he grins mischievously.
"Saint, your insolence could've caused the rest of us to face repercussions," I warn.
"I don't think it's pertinent to discuss this over a good breakfast," he scowls. "Finish your cereal and go grab something else. The food here are expensive, enjoy them while you can."
I open my mouth to object, but I shake it off and gobbles up the cereal. He's right, the Bank doesn't pay my accommodation just to have cereals and croissants for breakfast.
"What time is Anita coming?" I ask in between my second round of breakfast consisting of omelette, baked beans, combination of grilled red and white meat, nasi goreng (stir-fried rice) and hash brown all piled up on a plate.
"Her flight's scheduled at 3.00 pm and I've reminded her to check in an hour earlier. I hope she reads the texts despite not replying," Saint answers half-heartedly.
"She's probably on her way to the airport as we speak," I give the assurance. "Stop worrying too much."
"I don't like it when people don't respond to my texts like I'm not important," he complains, and I'm incidentally affected by his words.
"Okay. How's your breakfast?" I change the subject.
"Same as the day before," he sighs, eyeing on the amount of my second helping with admiration. "You look like someone I could take for a nasi kandar (steam rice served with curries and side dishes) heist. Are you up for it tonight? We could go for Penang rojak (salad dish) after that."
"I can handle both, but you can't," I tease. "They sprinkle peanuts on the rojak sauce."
"I'll be on my allergy meds. I can handle them now," he smirks. "What time are you checking out?
"12.00 noon sharp. I need to escort Madam Norma and the Corp Comms ladies to the airport before hopping to the next hostel," I inform him.
"I thought it's a budget hotel not a hostel," Saint casts a suspicious look at me. "What's the name of this hostel?"
"Kikky Youth Hostel at Penang Road."
"Hmm... dodgy," his eyebrows furrows, unconvinced. "Anyways, I'm just a call away. I might tag you along for dinner and properly introduce you to Anita."
"I'd love to, but I don't intend to ruin your weekend together," I gracefully decline. "If I'm hungry, I'll take the bus to Gurney Drive and will be strolling around town on my own."
"Suit yourself," he rolls his eyes to my statement and sips his coffee.
