Chapter Ten: Derek

After Lily told me what was going on with people going missing around section 2 we both decided that it was best if we leave. It's the hardest decision we've ever had to make. Section 1 has been our home since we got our powers. It reminds us so much of where we used to live as children. Now we have to say goodbye. It's a long journey ahead of us, but hopefully we'll get answers to all of our questions. Right now our main question is why are people going missing from each section.

"Lilly we must go now, there is no time to waste" I say to her while waking her up.

"I'm up, I'm up" she says. Lily and I packed before we fell asleep. We have a plan to escape section 1. Our plan is to get close to the part of the gates where no officers are, then slowly get into the building and use the AC vents as our way out.

Lily and I are getting closer to the gate, and we could tell there are no officers at the moment which is a good sign.

"Okay Lily, are you ready for a crazy adventure?" I say to her as positively as I can.

"Yes Derek, I'm ready. But if we get killed I'm blaming you" she says to me.

"All right let's go, we don't have all night" I say to her.

Lily and I make it into the building, it's huge but surprisingly no one's around. After searching the building for about 20 minutes we found the air vent. I make Lily climb up the vent first in case any officers come. I'd rather they take me and not find her. As soon as she gets into the vent, I climb in after her. It takes us a while to figure out what direction to go in, but we slowly make progress. We could tell we were getting closer to the outside ss we felt the air getting colder.

"Okay Derek we're here. How are we going to get down?" Lily says to me with hesitation in her voice.

"I never actually thought this part through. I never thought we would actually do it" I said to her.

"What the hell do you mean you never thought this through?" Lilly said to me almost yelling.

"Okay, how about this. You jump and then I jump and if we get hurt we could heal ourselves. What do you think?" I say.

"Honestly, it sounds like a plan. Let's do it" she says to me.

Next thing you know, Lily has jumped out of the vent. It seems like she might've hurt her wrist because it looks like she landed on it. After she jumps I jump. I don't hurt myself luckily, but I have to help Lily with her wrist so I run over to her, grab her wrist and begin to heal it. Afterwards we start to walk through the woods looking for a safe place to sleep. It was the first time we've been out of section 1 and we came across this cave. Little did we know we were not alone, we had walked halfway into the cave when all the sudden we froze and came face-to-face with a pack of wolves.

Lily and I froze in fear. We see the pack of wolves, but it seems like there's people with them. I can almost see their silhouettes but I'm not too sure. Nobody moves. Not even the wolves. Lily's standing beside me not moving an inch in fear.

"What do we do?" Lily says in a whisper.

"I don't know Lilly, I don't talk to animals nor do I know what to do in case I run into one" I say to her. This is just great. The one time we leave our section, we run into a pack of wolves.

"Derek, what the hell are we gonna do?" Lily says.

"It's okay Lily, we're gonna be fine. Look, they're not even doing anything" I say.

Then I hear a girl's voice. I have no idea who it is but I can hear her whispering to the others with her.
