I ran to my mum, tears in my eyes from the pure joy of seeing her safe, even if she was blue. But instead of hugging her I found myself on the floor, and a bit damp.

I turned and saw my mother was still there, except, when I looked closer, I saw that she wasn't really there, it was a hologram of sorts.

"Mum I- where are you, what happened, and why are you made of mist?"

"Calypso, my darling girl, I'm so sorry." Even through the mist I could see her tears. "Its not safe for us, me, Des and Felix to be with you right now, I'm calling you through the power of Iris, the Goddess of the Rainbow."

I looked at Chiron and he nodded in agreement with her. I turned back to my mother.

"Callie, I can't begin to express my emotions about this all. You see darling, you shouldn't exist, you weren't meant to be born, or, if you were, you were meant to be, well, different."

"Different how?.." My brain was too confuzzled at this point to even try being upset.

"Callie, as I'm sure Chiron mentioned, I am not human. I am a nymph, a nereid, a protector of water. This is why we never travelled, why we never moved. I cannot survive if I'm away from water for too long, and, as you are my daughter, neither can you, no matter who your father is. You brother is the same, even if his fathers side may be even more complicated than yours, which is why he is on the way to you now, my friends are bringing him, look after him for me ok?"

I realised that she thought this conversation was over.

"Hey! Wait! What about you? Des?"

She smiled softly. "We'll be fine Callie."

She turned to leave..

"Wait!" I shouted again. "Mum, who- who's my dad?"

My mothers face paled.

"I- I-, Callie its-"

Suddenly I heard Des shout from her end, and on the wall behind her I watched a massive, snake-like silhouette slide over. The call ended as suddenly as it had begun.

I spun, tears flowing, to face the centaur. His face was crinkled with what I think was worry, but could just be the general stress of running the camp.

In his deep voice he said a sentence I won't ever forget.

"Calypso, I think it's time we introduced you to Rachel Dare."

Short chapter but I put lots of important details so enjoy :)
