I laughed.
"So, you're trying to tell me, that my dad, the one who abandoned me at birth, is a god?
He looked at me like I was insane.(no debates there.)
"Yes... what's funny about that?"
I stopped laughing.
"You- you're serious?"
He didn't have to say anything.
Those eyes said it all.
"I don't understand..."
"I told you, I'm not meant to say anything, that's up to Chiron so please, let's go."
He grabbed my arm and pulled me back towards the pavement.
I stood still.
"Who's my dad then?" My voice sounded shaky.
"Don't know, won't know till your claimed, can't be claimed till we get there."
"Where are we going?" I asked, my voice close to breaking, but I'm not sure why. My emotions just get the better of me sometimes.
"America, East coast."
"Isn't there anywhere I can go in England?"
"Nope, not in your case."
Before I could ask what my case was he had taken off at an alarming rate for someone so short, yanking my arm out of its socket.
I tried desperately to slow down but he didn't stop walking, well, not walking, it was more like a trot...
"Lars, wait!" I yanked my arm out of his grasp and stopped to gain my breathe.
Man, was I unfit.
He turned to grab my arm again.
"No!" I shouted. Startled, he stepped back. "Lars, I have to go home first, I don't care how urgent, I, I have..." I trailed off. How could I explain?
My dad.
My dad.
Not step-dad. I was going to find out my real father.
My mum had always hated when I asked about him, I always figured it was because my step-dad would be jealous, but if there was more to the story my mum had the right to tell me herself.
I fiddled with my ring again.
"I just, I need.."
"You have family problems I'm guessing?"
I looked at him, slightly taken aback.
He sighed and shook his head.
"Look here Cal, can I call you Cal? Never mind I'm going to anyway. Look, every demigod I know has family issues, it's kind of a genetic thing from your parents I guess, but the bottom line is, you're not safe here, you'll be safe though, if you come with me." His face was serene and serious. At least until he popped a mini jam doughnut in his mouth.
I sighed defeatedly.
I couldn't believe I was agreeing to this.
"Just, I need to say goodbye, and.." maybe find out who my dad is.
He looked right in my eyes, before smiling slightly and pulling out a pen.
"Fine, you have 20 minutes, then meet here," he wrote down a location on my wrist, " and I'll be by the bus stop. Okay ? 20 minutes, 25 tops."
I smiled in thanks and ran off in direction of home.
