Emma
I was so proud of Ethan. The artists that he got on his team for The Voice were all incredible, and I knew he had a great chance at winning this thing.
I helped him pair the artists up for the battle rounds, but left it up to Ethan himself to pick songs for them. I knew he'd pick good ones, and he did.
For Katelyn and Samuel he picked Dirty Laundry by Don Henley, for Everett and Calvin he picked What a Man Gotta Do by The Jonas Brothers, for Maxwell and Drew he picked Back Against the Wall by Cage The Elephant, for Marin and Natalia he picked How to Be a Heartbreaker by Marina and the Diamonds, and finally for Tara and Thomas he picked There's No Way by Lauv and Julia Michaels.
It was a great matchup for the whole team, and the songs were great. The coolest part was that I got to be Team Ethan's advisor, which meant I got to help Ethan coach the artists and get them ready for this week.
Because there were twenty battles to go through, the show split them into four different days.
They organized it so that each coach would have their whole team's battles on one day, so Ethan's team went first.
Katelyn and Samuel had a really good battle, and Ethan had to choose one or the other at the end. He chose Katelyn to move on, and then Camila Cabello stole Samuel onto her team.
Next, Everett and Calvin battled, and Everett won. Calvin was stolen onto Team Blake. Maxwell and Drew was probably one of the toughest battles, but Maxwell grew victorious, sending Drew home.
Marin and Natalia's battle was the one I was waiting for, and Marin won, but Ethan used his save for Natalia. That means she would go to the 4 way knockout next week, where one person from each team would vie for America's vote to move on. Only one would win.
Finally, Thomas and Tara went, and they sang really well. Tara ended up winning, and that was the end of the night.
Ethan's team was now down to Katelyn Jade, Everett Young, Maxwell Huntington, Marin Freeman, Tara Fields, and Natalia Chase. Ethan still had his steal to use against another coach.
Team Julia went the next day, so Ethan stole Tyler Bishop off of her team. Tyler was an early 2000's alternative singer, so it gave Ethan's team more variety. We had country, soft rock, indie-alternative, pop, and 2000's alternative.
The next two days of the battles were just fun to watch, and I was happy that Ethan was enjoying being a coach on the show.
The two of us actually went out with the other coaches, and had dinner with all of them. It was super fun, and Julia and I even talked about working together sometime in the future. We have before, and it was pretty cool. She's super talented at songwriting.
Ethan and I went to the beach that weekend, and I helped him plan for the knockout round of The Voice.
The first matchup was Tara and Marin. Next was Everett and Maxwell, then Tyler and Katelyn.
The difference between Battles and the Knockouts was that the Battles were duets, and the Knockouts had each competitor perform a solo, and whoever was better moved on.
Ethan worked with each of the artists to choose a perfect song, and then the show had to approve them. Luckily, the show had rights to all of the songs that were chosen, so we were in the clear.
The two of us spent the day at a private beach close to the rental home we had been staying in, and it was a super relaxing day for both of us. We deserved a day off.
Just me, Ethan and the beach. It was the perfect day.
These kinds of days were the days that made me so happy that I was clean. Ethan made it so worth it. These were the days that reminded me of why Ethan is the only thing I need.
He was my rock, my best friend, my partner in crime, my rhythm and blues, my inspiration, my motivation, and simply the reason I'm even who I am today.
We filled these days with endless kisses, endless cuddles, endless love and endless music.
Ethan's team on the voice narrowed down to Marin, Everett, Katelyn and Natalia, and he also saved Tara, which meant she'd go to the next round.
As for me, I was still writing songs like crazy, and producing music from the rental home studio Ethan and I made.
One thing I didn't mention is that Ethan and I never really planned on children. It just was never on our agenda. Never against it, but never really for it either.
Things change in an instant.
It first happened when I was playing piano one day. Ethan was at rehearsal for The Voice.
I puked my guts out, thinking it was lunch. By the next morning, I knew it wasn't food poisoning.
Ethan was convinced I had the flu, but when he went to rehearsal that day, I went to buy some pregnancy tests.
Those three minutes were the longest three minutes of my life, and then the best.
I was pregnant. We never planned this baby, but everything I've ever been through made me feel like this was my reward for making it through.
I still remember the look on Ethan's face when I told him the news. He was so excited.
Immediately, we sat down at the piano to write a song together. About unconditional love, and how everything changes when you have that type of love.
I remember Ethan sitting next to me, my head resting against his arm as we played the piano together.
Talking, laughing, writing lyrics.
How lucky am I to have had my absolute my soulmate by my side since I was born?
I can't imagine it any other way.
