🧸 ( chapter five )
"CORY, I'M SUPPOSED to be walking to school with your girlfriend. What am I doing here?" The girl yawned, smiling quickly after Cory opened the Hunters' trailer door and made her step inside first first. "Hi, Mr. Hunter, Mrs. Hunter."
"Hey, Mr. Hunter, Mrs. Hunter." He closed the door behind them while Shawn stood at Chet's right side. "It sure is nice to see you back together, a whole family again in happy domestic bliss." Cory told them with a smile as Valentina and Shawn inadvertently smiled at each other.
"Well, aren't you sweet." Virna responded to Cory's words, then turned to her husband. "If you don't wanna see this entire family livin' in an Amana refrigerator box, you get your sorry act together and find some way to pay these bills." The woman commented angrily, causing Cory and Valentina to share a look.
"Perhaps we should wait outside where there's a little less tension." The curly-haired boy spoke before taking small steps back and opening the door, the girl staying behind him.
"You spineless deadbeat, hiding the bills in the cat box. I'll kill you!" And with those breathtaking words from a woman in one of the other trailers, Cory closed the door and with Valentina they turned around to then see Shawn's grimace.
"It's first of the month in the trailer park." He smiled, both Cory and Valentina nodding at his words.
"Val, hey." Shawn stepped closer to her as his parents kept arguing. "You okay?"
Valentina grimaced but nodded, she was doing better. "Yeah, thanks for askin'."
"That's your new vocabulary word for today, boys. . . and girl─ 'Fracas.'" The two boys and the girl nodded, not knowing what to say, then witnessed how Virna pulled her husband's ear and made him meet her.
"Chet!"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"I have been tearin' tickets every afternoon at the movie theater so we don't have to hide bills in the microwave, but pay 'em like normal people, Chet. I want to be normal, Chet!" Valentina laughed silently as she watched Virna shake Chet aggressively while she spoke the last six words.
