( chapter fourteen )

VALENTINA TRIED SO hard falling asleep again, she didn't want to wake up now or at least not anytime soon. The universe must've hated her because the more she tried the bigger her headache became and she couldn't despise being a human with necessities more than right then. Although she didn't know which one exactly was the one causing it─ If it was the fact that she had woken up at least two hours ago and hadn't eaten or becaushe she had spent the beginning of the night with a heavy heart pressing against her chest and couldn't even sleep the rest of it. Still it was better to blame it on something else than on herself.

Her mood had dropped since Topanga left. No night calls because she was busy, no 411's, no watching movies together while on the phone but hanging up as soon as their time was up because the phone bill was something they didn't pay. It was surprising to her how bad her mood had become since her friend had left.

It wasn't that Valentina had no other friends─at this point everyone in school had become her friend─but there was just something about her and Topanga's friendship that she couldn't describe nor could replace. At least for a long time.

Cory's and Shawn's calls had been ignored which most of the time didn't happen because Valentina knew if they called they had done something bad or something had gone far from their control and probably wanted help. Or just wanted to prank her because she couldn't see what was the caller's so she couldn't decipher which was a stupid call from a stupid person or a normal one. Either way they had been ignored.

Except one.

Cory had called her last afternoon and she had answered just because he had called their parents' phone and, like her parents had gone to visit her aunt Tatiana and uncle Joe, she had thought they had called her through those old phones old people would own─the ones that you stick a finger in and move a circular thing to get to the numbers─and probably had decided to go with the easiest number─ Theirs.

It wasn't.

( Valentina rolled on her bed again and again. I think it was called boredom.

She groaned, frustration getting to her as soon as she realized she couldn't take a nap because she didn't take naps! Dumbest decision ever.
