The Maze Runner (Thomas X Reader)

Chapter 5: Thomas

By the time I opened my eyes, I saw Alby leading Thomas to the name wall. I knew what Alby was doing this morning at least. I got my shoes on, and continued to walk around the Glade. 

As the day went on, I had nothing to do so I went to go check on Newt and Thomas. Thomas was helping Newt out with his farming.

"Hey guys," I said as I walked up.

"Hey," Newt smiled.

Thomas nodded towards me shyly. I began to help since I had nothing better to do, and Thomas and Newt began talking about ways to escape the maze.

"Has anyone tried climbing to the top?" Thomas asked.

"Tried it. The Ivy doesn't go all the way to the top," Newt responded, "and besides, where are you gonna go from there?"

"What about the box?" Thomas asked holding his shovel, "Y'know next time it comes up-"

"No, we tried that. The box won't go back down with someone in it," Newt responded.

"Okay, what if we-"

"No, we tried it, all right?" Newt responded agitated, "Twice. All right? Trust me. Anything you think of, we've already tried. The only way out of here is through the maze. Now look, you wanna be helpful?"

Newt picked up a bucket with a small shovel inside and threw it towards Thomas. He caught it once he dropped his shovel.

"Go dig us up some more fertilizer," Newt smirked.

Thomas sighed and walked away tripping slightly on a branch. I walked up beside Newt.

"He's very curious," I admired.

"And annoying," Newt chuckled, "I'm only joking,"

I smiled and continued working with Newt. 

"What do you honestly think of Thomas, though?" I asked curious.

"Well... he's interesting. He asks a lot of questions. Not really used to that," Newt admitted.

"Yeah," I agreed.

"What about you?" he asked me.

"I think he's really different, you know? Yes, he asks a lot of questions, but I was the same way when I came up," I said, "Pretty sure Alby was annoyed with me,"

Newt chuckled, "Yeah. You are pretty annoying, too,"

"Hey!" I said hitting his arm.

"Joking! Joking," he laughed, "You know I think you're bloody brilliant,"

"I know," I huffed,

We continued our work for awhile until I heard screaming in the woods. It was Thomas screaming at the top of his lungs for help. I knew instantly that he was in trouble. I stood up and watched the woods for any sign of him until I saw him run out with Ben right on his tail. Ben had tripped and grabbed Thomas' ankle causing him to fall and Ben climbed on top of him strangling him. I took a shovel, and had run over. I hit Ben on his head and he fell off in a daze. Everyone else held Ben down as I pulled Thomas to his feet.

"Hey, you alright?" I asked concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine," he said catching his breath.

I dusted off his shoulders and Frypan asked what had happened.

"He just attacked me," Thomas said standing straight.

I looked down to see Ben with blood trickling down where I hit him, and his eyes slowly opened.
