Soon the sun set around the Glade and fell behind those menacing walls. Our little shindig was about to begin. There was no wind and no clouds in the night sky. Little stars coated the sky as I walked with Newt to the pile of sticks.
"You ready to try Gally's drink again?" Newt chuckled as we walked.
"No! I've done that before and I'll never do it again," I detested.
"I'm only teasing," he smiled, "You're too much of a wimp to drink that stuff,"
"Oh? A wimp?"
"Yes," he laughed.
I punched his arm, "I'll show you who's the wimp,"
"Are you testing me, Y/n?" he questioned.
"I am," I smirked.
He laughed, "Alright,"
We got up to where the other boys were hanging out and partying. Once we had arrived, Newt and I had gotten large torches and were instructed to wait by Alby. As we stood there, the rest of the boys surrounded the pile, and we all aimed the torches that were lit on fire. We threw them in like we were throwing spears, and the pile had erupted in flame. We all wooed and cheered as Gally and his friends passed out his drinks. Gally winked at me handing to me, and I cringed.
Newt had placed his hand on my shoulder and I turned to see his large, devilish smile. He held up the glass jar filled with Gally's drink.
"Ready to prove you're not a wimp to me?" he laughed.
"Yeah. As a matter of fact, I am!"
I held up the drink to my lips and had one sip. He drank with me, but nearly took down half the jar.
"Only a sip?" he laughed.
I scrunched up my nose and sucked down my pride. I began drinking more of Gally's drink, and I had attracted a crowd cheering on for me and laughing. I finished the entire jar nearly vomiting, but I kept it down.
"Who's a wimp, huh?" I said smiling at Newt.
"I am," he giggled.
"Indeed," I laughed.
I turned to see greenie sitting by himself watching the now closed doors to the maze. I sighed and told Newt I would return in a bit. I walked over to a table and took yet another jar of Gally's drink. I opened it and took a long sip forgetting about the disgusting taste. I walked over to greenie, and sat next to him by a log. The ground was dry as we heard the boys behind us talking and chattering.
"That was an exciting first day, greenie," I chuckled.
I looked over to him seeing him observe the walls still. I then looked at my jar, and passed it to him.
"Here. Try this," I smirked.
He took it cautiously and took a long sip thinking it was good. It wasn't. He spat it back out and I began laughing.
"Oh! Oh my god. What is that?" he coughed handing me the jar.
I took it smiling, "Ah, I don't even know. It's Gally's recipe. It's a trade secret,"
I turned back to see Gally in the fighting circle with another boy. Gally looked up at me, smirked, but fell to the ground as the boy he was fighting had thrown him down. I chuckled and turned back.
"Yeah, well, he's still an asshole," greenie said looking down and playing with the grass a bit.
"You do realize, he saved your life today. Trust me, the maze is a dangerous place," I responded.
